According to talk show host Jason Rantz, Seattle Judge Veronica Galván's decision to release an armed robbery suspect who went on to allegedly disembowel a teenager, along with other progressive decisions she has made on the bench, make her "effectively as dangerous as the violent suspects she chooses to keep out on the streets."

On December 17, Millorz J. Canales, a 17-year-old well-known member of the Norteño gang, was arrested for assault, kidnapping, and robbery. According to KOMO News, Canales and an accomplice enticed a 14-year-old to Lions Park in Everett.

The 20-minute-long attack, which was caught on surveillance footage, resulted in the death of the victim, who later admitted to police his association with the rival South Side Locos. The victim was tied to a tree, stripped nude, stabbed eight times, carved with the letter "N," and disemboweled, according to the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney's office.

The victim survived and ran to a nearby home for help.

KTTH reported that Everett Police found a blood-soaked sweatshirt and bloodied green boxers when they arrested Canales as the prime suspect in the attack.

On Nov. 15, Canales was arrested for an alleged gang-related armed robbery in Seattle. Despite objections from the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, he was released without bail on Dec. 2 by Galvan. Weeks later, he allegedly mutilated a 14-year-old while awaiting trial.

The Rules of Ethics prevent the Court from discussing any particular case. However, you can request a copy of the hearings' recordings through the Clerk's Office, as Sonam Lata, Galvan's bailiff, informed Planet Chronicle Digital.

No comment was immediately available from the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Rantz believes that jail does not work as a disincentive for youth offenders and does not change their behaviors. He argues that the problem is not just about reform but also protecting the public from dangerous individuals who are not behind bars.

Unfortunately, with this judge, it keeps happening over and over again that those who have appeared before her receive a slap on the wrist.

In 2024, Galvan accused two 12- and 13-year-old brothers of stealing a car with a ghost gun and leading police on a high-speed chase, according to Fox 13.

In July, three teens were released on electronic home monitoring after being accused of threatening parade-goers with loaded guns that had been modified to fire automatically. Prosecutors argued that the teens should remain in jail for the safety of the community, according to KOMO News. However, Galvan stated that she wanted to give the teens a chance to change their ways through community support programs.

""Crime persists despite detaining people for years, and children continue to commit inappropriate things. Concerning behaviors remain, indicating that a different approach is needed," she stated, according to the source."

Rantz stated that Galvan's behavior on the bench exemplifies what occurs when one integrates their ideology into their job, causing them to view their decisions through a narrow, socially and justice-focused lens.

Not only is Galvan known for releasing suspects who have committed more serious crimes, but he is not the only judge to do so.

"Rantz stated that he follows a rule on his radio show where he rarely remembers the name of a judge for positive reasons. Instead, it is usually because of the soft-on-crime policies they have enforced and adopted. Unfortunately, Rantz recognizes many of these judges' names because they are making boneheaded, dangerous decisions that put dangerous people back on the streets."

Rantz stated that the story was not solely about Veronica Galvan, but could have been written about many judges across the state. However, it was the high-profile case that Galvan was involved in that caught Rantz's attention.

Both Seattle and Washington state have been "experiencing the aftermath" of progressive court rulings, he stated.

"In Washington state, judges and prosecutors have adopted a position of wanting to dismantle the criminal justice system and rebuild it through a specific ideological lens. This was evident during the BLM movement of 2020-2021, where they used language such as 'dismantling the criminal justice system' and 'rebuilding it.' As a result, policies and laws have been changed to create a system where justice is not blind, but rather based on one's identity as a defendant. This has led to a reality where defendants are treated differently, with more positive treatment for them and negative treatment for victims. This woke thinking has been prevalent in Washington state for a long time."

Since her appointment by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee in 2014, Galvan has been re-elected without opposition.

"The problem in King County, specifically in Seattle, is that we have a lot of open positions that are filled through appointment by a Democrat governor. However, no one steps up to challenge, resulting in a failure on the part of the local Republican Party. To address this issue, we need to encourage the best and brightest to run for these positions or continue to see power being ceded to radicals."
