A blind 20-year-old cat was rescued from an ice chunk in a Massachusetts lake in a 'miracle' event.
After being rescued from Nabnasset Lake, Tiki was reunited with his owner and is now doing well.
This week, a 20-year-old blind black-and-white cat was miraculously rescued from an icy Massachusetts pond.
On Monday, a man named Tiki, who enjoys exploring the outdoors, was observed on a floating piece of ice in Nabnasset Lake in Westford before falling in.
A passerby and nearby construction workers rescued the feline.
"Dawn Felicani, a passerby, recounted her experience on Thursday to The Associated Press. "I was hysterical when the crackling happened," she said. "Suddenly, it fell in and its little head was sticking out. I was in tears and freaking out.""
Kris and Nate, two construction workers, got into a rowboat to respond to the call made by Felicani to first responders and a local animal control officer.
""Nate used a shovel to break through the ice while Kris pushed the boat out as far as he could, helping Nate navigate from shore," the animal control news release stated."
"The agency stated that the cat was rescued from the water just in time to prevent him from freezing, and then dried off and wrapped in blankets."
Authorities stated that Tiki, who was in shock and taken for veterinary care, was shivering and lethargic. Despite his low temperature, it did not register on the thermometer.
John Arden, Tiki's owner, informed authorities that he might have left earlier in the morning hours.
Animal control stated that Tiki may have been pursued onto the ice by a predator last night and became trapped, drifting straight across the lake until morning.
The Westford Police Department announced that Tiki, who had been separated, was reunited with Arden and was in good condition.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
