A bear in a tree fell on a hunter in Virginia, resulting in his death, according to authorities.
Lester C. Harvey, 58, of Phenix, Virginia, was identified as the victim.
One of the man's hunting partners accidentally shot a bear from a tree, causing it to fall on him and result in his death, according to state wildlife officials.
According to a statement from Virginia's Department of Wildlife Resources, the incident occurred on Dec. 9 in Lunenburg County, Virginia.
The bear ran up a tree while being pursued by a hunting group.
As the group retreated from the tree, one hunter fired a shot that struck the bear, causing it to fall onto another hunter who was positioned about 10 feet below the tree's base.
Before Harvey was rushed to two hospitals, one person in the group provided first aid.
On Friday, Lester C. Harvey, 58, of Phenix, Virginia, succumbed to his injuries, as stated by the wildlife department.
Harvey, a self-employed contractor and avid outdoorsman, leaves behind a wife, five children, and eight grandchildren.
Other similar incidents have happened in recent years in the U.S.
