A 75-year-old man was discovered in a Maine bog four days after he went missing.
Mt Blue State Park staff found Michael Altmaier, 75, on Friday afternoon.
An official statement announced that a 75-year-old man from Maine, who had been missing for four days, was found "in good health."
Michael Altmaier of New Sharon was last seen on July 8 while leaving his home to attend a meeting in Weld, but he never arrived. His car was found by Mount Blue State Park staff at the park's scenic overlook, which is located off Center Hill Road in Weld, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife's Facebook post.
The Maine Warden Service started searching for Altmaier on Friday morning. He was discovered on the ground, "unable to get up," at around 3:45 p.m. by Game Warden Kayle Hamilton and K-9 Ash, about ¾ of a mile away from his vehicle's location, the agency stated.
Altmaier was first aided by first responders before a Maine Forest Service helicopter landed in the bog and transported him to an ambulance, which then took him to a local hospital for observation.
Investigators believe Altmaier fell down an embankment Monday and became disoriented.
Despite spending four days in the bog, Altmaier was in surprisingly good condition, according to Emergency Rescue Personnel.
The multi-agency rescue was highly praised in hundreds of comments on the department's Facebook post.
Despite the heat, humidity, and remnants of Beryl, it is impressive that he persevered.
