A 71-year-old Florida grandfather was fatally shot by his neighbor during a noise dispute, with the suspected gunman claiming self-defense.
According to his widow, Hureleyon McLean was a father to two sons.
On Thanksgiving Day, a 71-year-old man from Florida was reportedly killed by his neighbor during a dispute, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
On the holiday, a neighbor in Lauderdale Lakes left a note complaining about the loud music coming from Hureleyon McLean's house, according to his widow Rose, who shared this information with WTVJ.
"I flew to the door after hearing the gunshot," she said, "and when I looked out, my husband was lying face down in blood."
The sheriff's office stated that the unnamed alleged shooter is asserting self-defense in the incident, and no charges have been filed.
Rose claimed that the suspect threatened her after shooting her husband, who didn't have any weapons and didn't even have a knife on him, according to a statement she made to the station.
That day, when the unthinkable happened, Rose had been planning on celebrating Thanksgiving with family and friends.
"The shooter didn't express remorse, according to the woman who spoke to WSVN. Instead, he stood there with his gun pointed at her, just like he had done to her husband. She approached him and asked why he had shot her husband, to which he replied that if she didn't stop talking, he would shoot her as well."
McLean’s pastor was in shock about the shooting.
"Tracy McCloud told WSVN, "It's astonishing how we, as mankind, have reached a point where we do not value life as we should.""
Hureleyon was a father to two sons and a grandfather.
"I'm always with him wherever he is," Rose said to WSVN. "We're like a team, and it's very hard for him to be taken away like this."
The Broward County State Attorney's Office will decide whether to file criminal charges following an investigation, according to police.
