A 7-year-old girl from Ohio pleaded with her father not to carry out a murder-suicide, stating, "I don't want to go to heaven today."
'Am I going to heaven?' is the question Oaklynn, 7, poses to her father.
The young girl in Ohio begged her father not to take his own life and hers during a confrontation with police, stating, "I don't want to die today."
On November 11, in Jefferson County, Oaklynn, Charles Ryan Alexander's daughter, was kidnapped from her grandmother's house. Alexander, 43, did not have legal custody of his child.
An Amber Alert was issued for a girl who was found in Brunswick by the Brunswick Division of Police. The driver refused to stop, leading to a police pursuit involving multiple jurisdictions.
In a parking lot, a standoff occurred between Alexander and law enforcement after police used stop sticks to deflate his tires and force his vehicle to stop.
According to WKYC, audio of Alexander's conversations with law enforcement revealed the father threatening to kill his daughter and himself.
"I will shoot us both, stand back!" he shouted.
In the background, Oaklynn pleaded with her father not to execute his threat, saying "Please don't."
Alexander threatened the girl's mother, saying, "I want to talk to her. If you're listening, Ashley, you should have called."
The girl inquires if both she and her father will be going to heaven.
"What makes you believe we're headed to heaven?" she inquires.
Her father replies, "We'll both go."
Oaklynn continues to ask her father questions.
"Will I be going to heaven?" she inquired. However, upon realizing the implications of her journey to heaven, she exclaimed, "No!"
"Oaklynn told her father, "I don't want to go to heaven today," to which he replied, "I didn't want it to happen either, I just wanted to talk to your mother.""
Alexander was informed by the 911 dispatcher, "I understand that you didn't intend to harm your daughter and that this outcome was not what you wanted."
The dispatcher added, "Let's avoid doing anything that we can't reverse."
Oaklynn frequently inquired about whether she would be going to heaven that day and at one point exclaimed, "I don't want to!"
Another dispatcher advises Alexander to continue conversing with her to avoid scaring her.
The dispatcher stated, "Let's avoid doing anything that will make it even more unfair to her, as I know you love her."
Alexander was eventually shot and killed by the police.
Oaklynn was safely returned to her family after the shooting.
