A 19-year-old man, Joshua Montero, has been accused of driving under the influence and causing the death of a toddler in Florida.
On Monday, a 2-year-old boy on a tricycle was killed by a drunken Florida teen outside his home, as the child's parents yelled at the driver to slow down, authorities stated.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., a 19-year-old man named Joshua Montero was driving a Toyota Tacoma at high speed on a road in Tavares, Florida, while children were riding their bikes in a cul-de-sac in front of their home, as stated in an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX35 Orlando.
According to the affidavit, the parents of the children were standing in their driveway and observed them riding bikes when they shouted at the driver to slow down.
According to police, the driver did not slow down and collided with their 2-year-old son while he was riding his blue tricycle.
According to police, the child and bicycle were dragged a few feet by the truck before it came to a stop, as indicated by the blood marks on the road.
The toddler was run over by the truck's front tire and died after receiving CPR from neighbors until paramedics arrived.
According to police, Montero was discovered in the driver's seat of the truck. An officer who spoke with Montero on the sidewalk following the crash stated in the document that Montero's breath smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy.
According to the affidavit, Montero's blood alcohol level was .062 and .057 after being brought to the local jail, and investigators suspect it was higher at the time of the crash.
Montero was charged with DUI manslaughter and given a DUI citation.
