A 17-year-old was convicted of murdering a disabled man named Reggie Brown by beating him to death and was given a 7-year sentence.

A 12-15 year old girl who was involved in the beating death of disabled Reggie Brown, 64, of Washington, D.C., will be in jail until she turns 21, according to reports.
On Wednesday, a 13-year-old was given a seven-year prison sentence, as reported by FOX 5 DC. Prior to being sentenced, she expressed her regret in court.
"Malda Brown, one of the victim's sisters, expressed her sadness in court during sentencing, stating, "It saddens me that these young girls could be so brutal and do something so severe." She added, "I’m just grateful that the judge did give them the time that D.C. commits until to 21, so we are grateful for that. It’ll make my mom feel so much better once we get home to let her know that that did take place.""
"DYRS is allowing these kids to leave with no consequences, in and out the door, and receive a slap on the wrist before repeating the same behavior. This is leading to more violent crimes. It's tragic that our children have to be incarcerated, but it's also tragic that the danger they pose to the community, the harm they inflict on people, and the things they do to people," Nasia Israel, another one of Brown's sisters, said, according to FOX 5. "My brother didn't deserve that. Nobody deserves that."
In October 2023, one of the teen suspects testified after pleading guilty that they and the other suspects committed the assault because they were bored and looking for something to do when Brown was attacked.
On October 17, 2023, at approximately 1 a.m., the Metropolitan Police Department received a report of a man down in the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Brown with injuries consistent with an assault. Despite life-saving efforts, he passed away at the scene.
The 15-year-old suspect, who was the oldest among the three defendants, was given a three-year prison sentence for assault with a dangerous weapon after pleading guilty. She had testified that she came up with the plan to attack the man, whose family stated that he was weak and had recently fought cancer before passing away.
In the Brightwood neighborhood of Washington, D.C., at approximately 11 p.m., a group of girls strolled towards Georgia Avenue and Sheridan Street.
The girl, who was 15 years old, testified that when they arrived at the intersection, they encountered an unknown man who was attacking Brown while he lay on the ground. She stated that she asked the man if they could assist in beating up Brown, and he agreed to allow them to do so.
The man was speaking to the teens when they began chasing Brown, who tried to escape.
The Washington, D.C., CBS station reported that the prosecutor questioned the 15-year-old about their actions.
"Can you recall your thoughts while returning to the alley?" prosecutor Gabrielle LoGaglio inquired of the teenager.
"He’s dead," she responded.
