A 15-year-old girl has been identified as the school shooting suspect in Madison, Wisconsin.
Police say that 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow, who was allegedly the shooter, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
On Monday, a 15-year-old girl fatally shot a teacher and a teen student at a private Christian school in Madison, Wisconsin, and injured six others, authorities said.
Rupnow's family members were cooperating with the police, who were searching his home. Barnes stated that he would not provide further information about the shooter out of respect for the family.
"Barnes stated that Rupnow's father also lost someone, so they will not rush the information and will carefully investigate."
A second-grade student made a 911 call reporting a shooting, and officers arrived at the scene just before 11 a.m.
According to Barnes, Rupnow used a handgun in the shooting, but the police have not yet determined a motive for the attack.
He told reporters that he didn't know the reason behind it and felt that if they did, they could prevent it from happening.
The identities of the teacher and student who were killed in the shooting are still unknown.
Two students were in critical condition after being wounded in a shooting, while a teacher and three others were hospitalized with less serious injuries. All six people injured in the shooting have since been released from the hospital.
According to Barnes, the school, which serves 200 students, did not have a resource officer, despite what the school's website stated. Furthermore, it was disclosed that the school did not have metal detectors, but did have cameras and other security measures in place.
Following the shooting, President Biden spoke with Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, and issued a separate statement condemning the act as "shocking and unconscionable."
Biden stated that we must never tolerate violence that causes trauma to children, their families, and destroys entire communities.
The Milwaukee FBI bureau has dispatched agents to the location to aid in the investigation.
