911 Calls from Georgia High School Shooting Released: 'High Call Volume'
All three schools, Apalachee High, Yargo Elementary, and Haymon-Morris Middle School, were placed on lockdown.
On Friday, the authorities in Georgia made public the 911 call audio from the day of the Apalachee High School shooting.
The majority of calls made following the tragic Sept. 4 event were from parents of students at nearby high schools seeking information about their children's whereabouts and well-being.
At approximately 10:20 am, the Barrow County 911 call center was overwhelmed with calls, causing many callers to receive an automated message stating "high call volume" instead of speaking with an operator.
The caller was unable to articulate the details of the school shooting as described by her daughter, who said, "My daughter is crying. Somebody went 'boom, boom, boom, boom.'"
Immediately after the agreed-upon response was given to callers that morning, Apalachee High School was placed on lockdown.
The lockdown at the school extended to other schools in the area, including Yargo Elementary School and Haymon-Morris Middle School.
According to a letter from Barrow County Emergency Communications to FOX 5 Atlanta, most of the emergency calls made that day cannot be released because they contain "the speech or cries of a minor," as per Georgia law.
The attack resulted in the deaths of fourteen-year-old students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, as well as teachers Cristina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall.
Both Colt Gray and his 54-year-old father, Colin Gray, are currently in custody and facing charges for the killings. Despite being only 14 years old, Colt is being tried as an adult.
