Trevor Lawrence, the quarterback of the Jaguars, gave a straightforward evaluation of their performance following their loss: "We are terrible at the moment."
In their loss to the Browns, Lawrence made a brutal safety.
The Browns defeated the Jaguars 18-13, leaving the Jaguars with a 0-2 record on the season.
Trevor Lawrence went 14-of-30 with 220 passing yards and made a crucial safety with 1:44 left in the game. He did not throw a touchdown pass, and the only touchdown in the game by Jacksonville was a 4-yard run by running back Travis Etienne Jr. in the third quarter.
Lawrence, after signing a $275 million contract extension, was straightforward about the team's performance.
Lawrence stated, "We're not performing well, which is surprising given our great offseason and training camp. We have a talented team with good players, but we're not living up to expectations. It's time for everyone to take responsibility, look in the mirror, and improve. As the leader of this offense, I need to play better. The wideouts, line, and running backs also need to step up their game. We need to coach better as well."
The problem is that we're not taking charge and relying too much on others to make plays. Defense has been playing poorly lately, and if a team doesn't score more than 20 points, we should win every week. We're making too many mistakes in the red zone, getting in and out of the huddle, and our communication isn't good. It's a lot of things that are frustrating after the game, but we control them. We need to improve our performance and take charge of the game.
"Until we execute it correctly, it's a different narrative. We understand the areas we need to improve and must establish a rhythm as an offense. With too many talented players underperforming, it's particularly concerning, especially in the last two weeks."
Last week, the Miami Dolphins narrowly defeated Jacksonville with a final score of 17-14.
Since Dec. 4, 2023, the Jaguars have not scored at least 30 points in a game, and they have not scored more than 20 points since Dec. 31 against the Carolina Panthers.
Doug Pederson, the Jaguars head coach, stated, 'It's not who we are. Coaches, players work too hard during the week.'
"That's a great defense, one of the best in the league. However, we didn't perform as well as we could have today. We need to analyze our defense and find ways to improve. I believe we have the talent, but we need to be more consistent."
