Caitlin Clark's rookie season in the WNBA is not considered "dominating" by Sheryl Swoopes.
Caitlin Clark was wrongly criticized by Sheryl Swoopes about her college career, according to an admission by Swoopes earlier this year.
Caitlin Clark fans have been upset by Sheryl Swoopes' latest comments about the Indiana Fever star rookie.
Swoopes discussed on the "Gil’s Arena" podcast whether Clark is currently the dominant player in the WNBA.
What would the numbers have to be if we had a number and said we're talking about dominating with Caitlin Clark, three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas asked?
"Although those numbers are impressive, they don't completely dominate for me," Swoopes stated.
Swoopes elaborated on her earlier remarks, stating that Clark and fellow rookie Angel Reese would not immediately establish dominance in the W.
""People thought I said Caitlin and Angel wouldn't be good, but I only said I didn't think they would dominate immediately. I still don't think Clark is dominating, but she's a different player than she was in the first half of the season," Swoopes said."
Clark's impressive stat line this season, with an average of 19.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game, is something that no one in WNBA history has achieved or surpassed.
Clark has been breaking WNBA records with her impressive rookie campaign. She holds the record for the most single-season assists (321) and set the league record with 19 assists in a single game. Additionally, she is the fastest player to reach 300 assists in history.
Clark holds the record for the most points and assists in a single season among rookies.
Although Swoopes thinks Clark has been impressive, she doesn't consider it dominance.
"Swoopes stated that he never doubted Caitlin's skills as a player, but believed it would take her time to adapt to professional life. In his opinion, she has successfully adjusted and is now a top player."
Earlier this month, the Hall of Famer Swoopes held an X Spaces and addressed a controversy regarding previous statements made about Clark, stating that she has been criticized as someone who is "unfair" to the Iowa Hawkeyes product.
Swoopes famously criticized Clark's college resume, stating that she was a 25-year-old playing against 20-year-olds. Additionally, Swoopes claimed that Clark played five college seasons when she only played four, and that she averaged 22.7 shots per game, which Swoopes believed was over 40 per contest.
Swoopes confessed that she was "uttering incorrect statements" during her Spaces conversation.
"I didn't need to apologize to everyone," Swoopes stated during the event, which was covered by Planet Chronicle Digital. "I contacted Caitlin and we had a wonderful conversation."
