Titans coach Brian Callahan criticizes Will Levis' "dumb" turnover: "He lost us points."
At the moment of turnover, Callahan noticed Levis tearing apart.
On Sunday, the Tennessee Titans witnessed quarterback Will Levis make another poor decision that resulted in a turnover, and head coach Brian Callahan did not hesitate to express his criticism of Levis' play during the loss to the New York Jets.
In the second quarter, the Jets were leading 7-0, and Levis attempted to pass from the seven-yard line but couldn't find any openings in the end zone.
After attempting to leap over linemen, Levis landed on the turf for a sack with his pocket collapsing.
Instead of taking the sack and allowing his kicker to hit a short field goal, Levis threw the ball backwards to his running back, Tyjae Spears. However, Spears wasn't able to corral the ball at his feet, and the Jets would recover for a massive turnover.
Callahan immediately expressed his anger, shouting at Levis and appearing to say, "What the f--- are you doing?" He then attacked Levis, who nodded before leaving the field.
Callahan was asked about his feelings after the game, but he knew it was already seen. Despite this, he continued to criticize his quarterback, which is not typical of NFL head coaches.
I believe the camera captured it clearly, and I was upset about it," Callahan stated after the game. "It was a mistake. He repeated the same action he did last week, which cost us points in the red zone. That's just how it is.
"He has grown up and knows better, yet he still cost us three points in a crucial game."
Last week, Callahan was critical of Levis for throwing away the game on a similar play.
Despite not scoring an offensive touchdown, the Chicago Bears won the game, 24-17, after Levis attempted to shuffle-pass a ball out of bounds, resulting in a pick-six.
Despite challenges for quarterbacks in the league, Levis has already thrown three interceptions to two touchdowns, indicating a slow start to the 2024 season.
Levis has a 3-8 record as a starter with a 59.4% completion rate and 10 touchdowns to seven interceptions. Of those 10 touchdowns, 10 came in his debut last season as a rookie.
Callahan, as Titans head coach, won't sugarcoat anything for his quarterback in his first season.
