Rex Chapman, a former NBA player, urges the media to shift focus away from the second suspected attempt to assassinate President Trump.
A 2nd alleged assassination attempt was made on former President Donald Trump.
Rex Chapman, a former NBA star, urged the media to concentrate on covering Springfield, Ohio, instead of the alleged second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his Florida course.
Over the past week, the town of Springfield has been at the center of a political controversy due to allegations that pets have been stolen and consumed, which officials have strongly denied. This has sparked a broader discussion about the difficulties faced by Haitian migrants since their arrival.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of Haitians have migrated to Springfield, resulting in an increase in crime, mayhem, and car accidents. In a town of 58,000 people, approximately 20,000 Haitians have arrived, according to city officials.
On Sunday, a 58-year-old man was arrested and charged with pointing an AK-47 at Trump. According to authorities, Secret Service agents fired at Ryan Wesley Routh after observing the muzzle of his AK-47 protruding through a chain-link fence one hole in front of where Trump was playing.
Authorities are treating the incident as an apparent assassination attempt on Trump.
"Chapman wrote on X: 'Media - please go to Springfield and cover the story there, not the one on the golf course in Florida. We’re watching.'"
Chapman made clear he condemned the assassination attempt.
Political violence is detrimental, as it encompasses assassination attempts and candidates' false statements that incite bomb threats against hospitals and elementary schools.
"I can certainly condemn an assassination attempt against Trump. Why couldn't he condemn bomb threats against schools and hospitals?"
In 1988, Kentucky produced the No. 8 overall draft pick, Chapman, who later made it to the 1988-89 All-Rookie Team. He played a total of 666 games for four different teams.
Trump released a statement on the apparent second assassination attempt later Sunday.
My area experienced gunfire, but before speculation runs rampant, I want you to know: I am unharmed and doing okay.
"Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER.
"I will always love you for supporting me."
