Report suggests that Texas star Quinn Ewers may not be available for the next game, opening up a potential start for Arch Manning.
The AP poll's top team may need to rely on Arch Manning for his first professional start.
There is a possibility that the Texas Longhorns may utilize Arch Manning as their starter for the first time in his college career, as head coach Steve Sarkisian stated that Heisman candidate Quinn Ewers is "questionable" for their upcoming game against Louisiana-Monroe, according to Yahoo Sports.
In the second quarter, Ewers suffered a strained abdomen while playing against UTSA and was in discomfort as he walked off the field. Manning replaced him on offense and led the team.
After going 14-for-16 for 185 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, Ewers left the locker room in street clothes, signaling the end of his day.
The injury sustained by Evers was not a contact injury, but rather occurred during a pass to his tight end, Gunnar Helm, and was confirmed by a subsequent hand-off to his running back.
"According to The Athletic, Sarkisian stated that Ewers' pass play release made him feel something unusual. He initially thought it would go away, but after staying in for another play, he realized he needed to get it checked out as it didn't feel right."
If Ewers misses a game, Sarkisian is likely confident in winning against Louisiana-Monroe, as Manning had a great game after coming in against UTSA.
DeAndre Moore Jr. scored a 19-yard touchdown on Manning's first drive, and later Manning ran for a 67-yard touchdown.
On 9-of-12 passing, Manning had four touchdown passes and accumulated 223 yards.
Ewers has missed two games in each of the past three seasons due to injury, including the 2023 season where the Longhorns made the College Football Playoff.
Last season, Ewers had Maalik Murphy as his backup at Duke University.
According to Sarkisian, Ewers will remain "week to week," but it's important to monitor what the Longhorns will do this week in terms of who will run their offense.
