Report: Panthers to replace Bryce Young with 3-time Pro Bowler after 2 games.
It is reported that Andy Dalton will start in Week 3.
The Carolina Panthers have apparently seen enough of Bryce Young right now.
The NFL Network reported on Monday that the Panthers will replace Cam Newton with Andy Dalton for their Week 3 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Young, started 16 of the 17 games last season and threw for 2,877 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, the first two games of the season have left much to be desired of the young quarterback as he continues to search for his footing.
Against the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles Chargers, Young recorded 245 passing yards in two blowout losses to begin the season. He did not score any touchdown passes and had three interceptions.
"Miles Sanders, the Panthers running back, stated on Sunday that he has been in the league for a while and has previously worked with a young quarterback. He added that the first overall pick is always under scrutiny, not just within the team but also around the league. Sanders emphasized that the young quarterback is a competitor and his confidence may fluctuate, so he tried to reassure him by saying, "I've got your back, man.""
Dalton, a three-time Pro Bowler, has been with the Panthers since the start of last season. Last year, he made one start in three games and had 361 passing yards with two touchdown passes.
Since the 2022 season, he hasn't been a regular starter for the Saints, who were searching for a successor to Drew Brees. Prior to that, he was the starting quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2011 to 2019.
In 133 games, Dalton accumulated 31,594 passing yards and 204 passing touchdowns with the Bengals.
In 2023, the Panthers traded up with the Chicago Bears to acquire Young, but despite his impressive play, the team still finished as the worst in the NFL.
