Ole Miss matchup canceled after Wake Forest's 34-point loss; Lane Kiffin disappointed.
Wake Forest 'bought out the game,' according to Kiffin.
On Saturday, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons were defeated by the Ole Miss Rebels 40-6, demonstrating why they were considered one of the top teams in the country.
After the game, Lane Kiffin disclosed that Wake Forest had canceled their home-and-home contract for the next season, which would have brought them to Oxford, Mississippi for another matchup.
"According to Kiffin, via 247 Sports, John Currie, the athletic director of Wake Forest, informed them that they would not be playing next year and bought out of the game. Kiffin believes this message is a positive one for his players, as it shows that someone is willing to pay money to avoid playing them, indicating the strength of their program."
On Monday, Kiffin reiterated his concerns about Wake Forest's decision to withdraw from the next season's game, stating that it violated an "unspoken agreement."
He remarked, "It's rarely done." "I've never heard of it before, and it puts us at a disadvantage. It is what it is. It's clear that it wasn't appreciated much, given the circumstances."
"Finding someone and paying them is a common practice, even though it's not explicitly stated."
An individual familiar with the matter informed The Associated Press that Wake Forest did cancel their visit to an SEC school.
Ole Miss now has to find an opponent to fill the hole.
Kiffin remarked, "It's astonishing how you reveal the team's plans only a week before the game."
