NFL star Tyreek Hill's behavior during police detention criticized by ex-NFL player.
The detention was commented on by Cam Newton.
Cam Newton was blunt when discussing Tyreek Hill's arrest prior to the Miami Dolphins' first game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The NFL world was captivated by Hill's encounter with Miami-Dade Police, as seen in the bodycam footage that depicted the dramatic moments from the moment Hill was stopped, removed from his car, and placed in handcuffs while lying on the ground.
The NFL MVP discussed the interaction on the "4th & 1 Podcast."
"I’m just trying to keep you alive," he said after the bodycam footage showed Hill’s reluctance to roll his window down. "I’m not talking to Tyreek Hill more than I’m talking to anybody else who gets pulled over on a day-to-day basis."
Newton was astonished when Hill rolled the window back up.
"Newton cautioned against rolling the window down and then back up, stating that it posed a danger and required putting oneself in the officer's position, who may not know what was in the car."
Newton clarified that he was not supporting the officers' stance, but rather attempting to explain "an alternate outcome of this scenario."
If Hill were just an ordinary individual, he would be "resisting arrest."
He added, "It's over when they say get out that damn car."
After the incident, the Dolphins star received two traffic citations and subsequently called for an officer's firing after the officer was placed on administrative duties.
