Caitlin Clark's boyfriend is set to change jobs - what are her thoughts on it?
Clark's new workplace will be located a short distance away.
Butler University announced on Tuesday that Caitlin Clark's boyfriend Connor McCaffery was hired as an assistant men's basketball coach.
""Connor, who had a successful high-level playing career, has been fortunate enough to work alongside one of the top NBA staffs. His experiences will greatly benefit our team, and I am thrilled to see how he will positively impact our program in the short and long term," said Butler head coach Thad Matta."
On Tuesday, Clark shared her thoughts about her new job in an Instagram story.
"Congratulations, Clark! 🎉 So happy for you," McCaffery wrote alongside a white heart emoji and Clark's Instagram handle.
Jack, an incoming freshman at Butler in the class of 2025, will now be coached by his older brother, McCaffery. Although Connor has some experience with coaching family members, it will be from a different perspective.
Connor played for his father, Fran McCaffery, who has been the coach at Iowa since 2010, for six collegiate seasons from 2017-23.
McCaffery played in 166 games, which ranks second in Iowa history. Despite dealing with injuries throughout his college career, he was able to play six seasons due to a redshirt year and COVID-19 campaign. In his full seasons, he reached the NCAA tournament, except for his COVID season. McCaffery averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds, and played in 111 wins, tying Jordan Bohannon for most in program history. His career assist-to-turnover ratio of 3.59 (527 assists to 147 turnovers) is the second best in NCAA history.
McCaffery met Clark while she was playing for the women's team at Iowa from 2020-24. The couple started dating in April 2023, after Clark led Iowa to the NCAA title game. However, McCaffery was a senior at the time and began his coaching career immediately after graduating.
In May of that year, he started his career as an assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers. McCaffrey ended up with a job in Indiana before Clark even knew she was going to be playing for the Indiana Fever. By chance, the Fever finished with a poor record last season, which earned them the top pick in the WNBA Draft lottery this year, sending Clark to Indiana as well.
Despite McCaffery's new job, the Butler campus remains only seven miles from the Fever's arena, Gainbridge Field House, keeping their destinies intertwined in Indianapolis.
On April 24, 2024, Connor shared on Instagram that the couple celebrated their first anniversary.
"One year has been the best doing life with you, and you never cease to amaze me. I can't wait to watch you live out your dreams in person. Love you," he wrote in the caption.
Meanwhile, Clark is preparing to lead the Fever on its first playoff run in eight years. She recently broke another WNBA rookie record in the Fever's 110-109 victory over the Dallas Wings in their final home game of the regular season. Clark had a career-high 35 points as she surpassed the WNBA mark for most points scored by a rookie in a single season. Seimone Augustus set the standard 18 years ago when she scored 744 points in her first season with the Minnesota Lynx.
Just days before that she broke the WNBA's single-season assist record.
Clark's rookie season has been marked by controversy, as she is just one technical foul away from earning her first WNBA suspension. This issue has resulted in her teammates forcefully trying to hold her back during a tense moment against the Wings, preventing her from putting herself at risk with the referees.
