The final decision for the last major union in the Harris-Trump showdown is approaching.
Union leaders are polling members ahead of Wednesday's executive board meeting about endorsing a presidential candidate.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the only union among the nation's top 10 that hasn't endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in her 2024 faceoff with former President Trump, may reveal their choice for the White House race later this week.
Teamsters General President Sean O'Brien stated that the union will consider all options and he cannot make a commitment on the course of action at the national headquarters in the capital.
On Monday, O'Brien spoke following a private meeting with Harris and other Teamsters leaders for a roundtable discussion.
The vice president did not speak with reporters as she left the Teamsters headquarters after delivering her pitch, as the Democrats' presidential nominee aims to maintain her party's strong support from organized labor.
Last year, O'Brien unveiled the union's first-ever interview process for their 2024 presidential endorsement and invited the major party candidates to present their arguments.
Earlier this year, the Teamsters met with both Trump and Biden, with the latter being the president who succeeded Harris on the Democrats' national ticket two months ago.
In July, O'Brien made history by being the first Teamsters president to speak at a Republican National Convention.
Some top Teamsters leaders and rank-and-file membership were angered by his speech, which led to controversy. Democrats did not invite O'Brien to speak at their convention in Chicago last month.
On Monday, O'Brien stated that the Teamsters were completing their union membership polling before the executive board meeting on Wednesday, and that the polling results would be made public.
The endorsement will depend on the opinions of the rank and file members, polling results, and discussions and deliberations of the general executive board.
"The Teamsters union is unique among unions, as it represents a diverse range of individuals, including airline pilots and zookeepers, according to O'Brien. As such, the union must consider the views of registered Democrats, Republicans, and independents."
""Our main priority is to represent workers, negotiate strong contracts, and organize new members," he emphasized."
The Teamsters posed the same inquiries to Harris as they did to Biden earlier this year, and O'Brien observed that the president and vice president provided comparable responses.
He remarked that there wasn't much of a difference.
The candidates have been questioned by the Teamsters regarding their stance on the PRO Act, which proposes significant changes to federal labor law in favor of unions, as well as their views on bankruptcy reform and antitrust policies.
Biden made history by joining striking workers on a picket line, and O'Brien emphasized that Biden has been beneficial to unions.
In an interview with Elon Musk, O'Brien again expressed his disapproval of Trump's recent remarks about Musk's handling of striking workers, which is illegal.
O'Brien stated that Trump's comments are a factor in the Teamsters' endorsement decision.
