Over 100 former GOP officials publicly back Harris over Trump.
A campaign spokesperson for Harris stated that the candidate currently has Republican momentum.
Over 100 former Republican officials, including those with experience in national security and those who have worked in GOP presidential administrations, have written a letter supporting Vice President Harris and cautioning against the risks of a second Trump administration.
"The letter released Wednesday acknowledges that many Republicans prefer Donald Trump over Kamala Harris, citing various reasons. However, the letter recognizes and does not criticize their potential concerns. Nevertheless, the letter emphasizes that any concerns are overshadowed by Trump's chaotic and unethical behavior and disregard for the principles of constitutional governance."
The former president's "unpredictable nature is not the negotiating virtue he extols," according to the signatories in their letter. They added that Trump's demeanor "invites equally erratic behavior from our adversaries, which irresponsibly threatens reckless and dangerous global consequences."
The Wednesday letter, which is the third to be released, is endorsed by more than 200 former GOP officials, including those who worked for former President George W. Bush, the late Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah. The letter also comes shortly after former Vice President Cheney and his daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, both indicated they would be voting for Harris as well.
While the majority of signatories on the Wednesday letter were former officials from the Bush administrations or Reagan's presidency, some former Republican congressmen, including Adam Kinzinger from Illinois and Barbara Comstock from Virginia, also put their names to the document.
The Wednesday letter had 111 signatures, but at least two of them were repeats from the August letter supporting Joe Biden. Additionally, one name appeared to be a third repeat from the August letter, although Planet Chronicle Digital could not confirm this before publication. Furthermore, two signatories on the Wednesday letter also signed the October 2020 letter that claimed the Hunter Biden laptop story, which was published by the New York Post, was "disinformation pushed by Russia."
Steven Cheung, a Trump campaign spokesperson, criticized the Wednesday letter's signatories, stating that they are the same individuals who led the country into endless foreign conflicts and benefited financially while the American people suffered.
Cheung stated that President Trump is the only modern president who did not lead the country into any new wars.
The letter on Wednesday outlined several reasons why its signatories are supporting Harris for president. Among them were her commitment to upholding the rule of law, democracy, and constitutional principles. The letter also emphasized Harris's pledge to maintain the U.S. military as the most lethal fighting force in the world and her support for NATO, Israel, and the bipartisan border security act that failed this year. Additionally, the letter noted that Harris has promised to appoint a Republican to her Cabinet in order to foster a diversity of views and restore a measure of bipartisanship and comity to domestic politics.
The letter praised Harris's ability to make orderly national security decisions and predicted that her presidency would avoid the constant drama and Cabinet turnover of the Trump administration.
During her time as vice president, Harris has faced criticism for fostering a negative work environment and experiencing a high staff turnover rate.
Trump's susceptibility to flattery and manipulation by Putin and Xi Jinping, unusual affinity for other authoritarian leaders, contempt for ethical and lawful behavior, and chaotic national security decision-making are dangerous qualities.
Tulsi Gabbard commended Trump for his efforts in dealing with U.S. rivals, stating that it is essential for effective diplomacy.
""President Trump did what President Obama and Biden refused to do, which is to engage in diplomacy with adversaries, as Kamala Harris has made clear she refuses to do," Gabbard stated."
The Wednesday letter concluded that Trump was unfit to uphold and defend the Constitution against foreign and domestic threats. In contrast, the letter expressed confidence in Kamala Harris' ability to do so and urged Americans to support her. Additionally, the letter stated that Trump should never be allowed to hold any political office in the future.
The Harris campaign is currently concentrating on winning over Republican voters through various methods, including paid media and grassroots-driven digital initiatives, according to Ian Sams, a spokesperson for the campaign.
""We are proud of the bipartisan support for Vice President Harris and will continue to work every day to earn the support of Republican voters who share her values of patriotism, freedom, and our Constitution," Sams stated."
