Pennsylvania's Department of State confirmed to Planet Chronicle Digital on Friday that a county in a crucial battleground state is examining approximately 2,500 voter registration forms that were marked for possible fraud.
Since last week, the office has been in touch with Lancaster County after receiving two batches of potentially fraudulent voter registration forms.
The Board of Elections Office received two batches of suspected fraudulent voter registration forms close to the deadline for submission, according to a statement issued on Friday.
The District Attorney's office and the Lancaster County Board of Elections are collaborating to scrutinize the applications.
County election officials discovered concerns about the security of the Pennsylvania database during their routine review and entry of applications, prompting law enforcement to be notified.
County election officials notified the Pennsylvania Department of State and the state attorney general's office after discovering that forms with suspicious information had false names, duplicative handwriting, or unverifiable or incorrect identifying information.
Lancaster County officials urged calm at a press conference on Friday, emphasizing that the election system functioned as intended in preventing fraud. The applications were not limited to a single party and were collected in multiple locations across the county.
"Lancaster County Commissioner Ray D'Agostino, a Republican who chairs the county election board, stated that "we’ve contained this" and that "this is not right, it's illegal, and it's immoral." He added that they found it and will take care of it."
He assured that the people of Lancaster County can have trust in the way their elections are conducted.
Lancaster County was commended by the Pennsylvania Department of State on Friday for their efforts in detecting fraud and notifying law enforcement.
