ICE is seeking a Guatemalan migrant who has been accused of child abuse, violence against women, and abuse of power and has been ousted from the US.
In September, Romeo Pop Sacui was apprehended by Harrisburg Police for charges of simple assault and strangulation, as per ICE.
Last month, a man wanted in Guatemala for child abuse and other crimes was arrested in Harrisburg for simple assault and strangulation. However, he has since been deported, as per U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"Philadelphia's Enforcement and Removal Operations successfully deported Romeo Pop Sacui, a Guatemalan citizen with a final order of removal, to Guatemala on Oct. 22. Pop, a foreign fugitive, was wanted by Guatemalan law enforcement authorities for child abuse, violence against women, and abuse of power."
In 2019, the U.S. Border Patrol arrested the man, but ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations San Diego released him from custody through the Alternatives to Detention program on an order of recognizance.
The man was removed from the program and ordered to leave the U.S. by ERO Miami after he absconded, according to an ICE press release.
In September 2024, the man was arrested by Harrisburg Police for simple assault and strangulation. Later in the same month, ERO Philadelphia arrested him, according to ICE.
"ERO Philadelphia Field Office Director Cammilla Wamsley emphasized that protecting the American public is a top priority for ERO officers. According to the ICE press release, officers frequently apprehend and expel violent non-citizens, such as Romeo Pop Sacui, who have committed crimes in their home country and continue to do so in the U.S."
The topic of U.S. border security has been a focus during the 2024 presidential campaign.
Donald Trump, the former president, stated that he intended to undertake the largest mass deportation in American history.
Trump's running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, declared in a tweet that he would kick some cartel ass on behalf of every American who has lost a loved one due to the border crisis when President Donald J. Trump takes office.
