Governors from the Democratic party unite to form opposition against Trump.
The nonpartisan alliance, Governors Safeguarding Democracy, is co-chaired by two Democrats.
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Colorado Gov. Jared Polis are leading a new coalition of governors called Governors Safeguarding Democracy as Democrats prepare to face the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump.
Despite the initiative's website stating it as a nonpartisan alliance aimed at strengthening American democracy, both co-chairs are Democrats.
"Pritzker stated that there have been discussions with Republican governors, which were productive, and many governors remain interested. However, he declined to reveal the names of the governors they have spoken to."
Examples of threats to our democracy include fast-moving disinformation campaigns and cyberthreats.
"Pritzker stated that Trump plans to appoint individuals who are devoted to his personality rather than the law, according to the New York Times. "In the past, he was unaware of the government's mechanisms. However, I believe he now understands them. As a result, the danger remains significant," Pritzker added."
In 2025, Trump will be inaugurated as the president after winning the election with certainty.

Polis stated on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that he and his administration would collaborate with Trump and his administration to benefit their state.
It is crucial to safeguard democratic institutions, so that elections, court rulings, and the rule of law remain intact regardless of whether the administration is Republican or Democratic.
Pritzker stated that the effort is aimed at addressing governors' concerns about dealing with the new administration's onslaught.
The website for safeguarding democracy by the governors has a donations page with an optional field for donors to choose from various pronouns such as "Ve/Ver/Vis," "Xe/Xem/Xyrs," and more.
The Governors Safeguarding Democracy initiative is backed by the Governors Action Alliance (GovAct), a fiscally sponsored project of Global Impact, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The press secretaries for Governors Polis and Pritzker responded to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comments with press releases about the initiative.
The press release never mentions President-elect Trump.
"In this crucial juncture of our history, we must come together to safeguard the foundations of our democracy and fortify our institutions against threats, so that they continue to fulfill their mission of enhancing the lives of our people, as Governor Pritzker stated in the press release. The Governors Safeguarding Democracy initiative will be a potent force at the state level, working to uphold the ideals of our democracy and ensure its longevity for future generations."
"Governors Safeguarding Democracy highlights the importance of strong leadership at the state level to protect democracy, as Polis stated in a press release."
