Florida Governor DeSantis announces probe into the second Trump assassination attempt.
An inquiry will examine the methods used by the gunman to approach Trump within 500 yards.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Sunday that his state will launch a separate probe into how a second gunman managed to get within 500 yards of former President Trump.
At Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, the former president was engaged in a game when the U.S. Secret Service fired on Ryan Wesley Routh, who was believed to be armed with a rifle.
The former president was allegedly targeted by Routh, who had a GoPro camera and two backpacks, and reportedly pushed the rifle's muzzle through a chain-linked fence about 300 to 500 yards away.
Authorities said that Routh fled in a black Nissan after the agents fired at him, and he was apprehended quickly.
On the fifth hole of his course, Trump was targeted by shots, prompting his protective detail to rush him to the clubhouse. This is the second assassination attempt on Trump in two months.
Florida will launch an investigation into the attempted assassination on Trump's life at Trump International Golf Club.
DeSantis stated in a X post that the public should know about the would-be assassin and how he managed to get so close to the former president and current GOP nominee.
In the past 64 days, a gunman has approached the president twice with a weapon.
On July 13, a man named Thomas Matthew Crooks fired shots at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, from a building about 150 yards away from the stage.
One of the eight rounds fired by crooks grazed Trump's ear, and a slight movement to the left or right could have resulted in serious brain damage or death.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers, including Mike Kelly, R-Pa., and Jason Crow, D-Colo., is investigating how Crooks was able to access the top of a building that was not manned, yet was so close to Trump.
On Sunday, two lawmakers issued a statement requesting a Secret Service briefing on the events leading up to the latest attempted assassination of Trump, which occurred in West Palm Beach.
The two wrote that they are grateful the former President was not injured but are still worried about political violence and strongly oppose it in all its forms.
