Wendy Williams refutes claims of cognitive impairment, stating that guardianship feels like being imprisoned.
Williams discussed her guardianship on 'The Breakfast Club'.
In a new interview, Wendy Williams tearfully shared the stress she's been experiencing since becoming a ward of a New York care facility.
During an interview on iHeartRadio's "The Breakfast Club" on Thursday morning, Williams stated that she is not cognitively impaired and her audience should understand what she is saying. In February 2024, Williams' team announced that she had been diagnosed with both progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
The 60-year-old admitted on the radio program that they felt like they were in prison.
""On this floor, there's something wrong with the people who are in their 90s, 80s, and 70s," she stated."
She described the strict supervision she experienced, stating that although she was permitted to make outgoing phone calls, no one was allowed to call her.
"To access the elevator and descend, you must first obtain keys to unlock the door. The staff here acts like nursemaids, administering medicine to patients. Williams confessed that she is unaware of the medication she is taking. "Doctor, could you please inform me what this pill is for?" she inquired."
""Emotional abuse is what I've experienced for the past three years, which has included being alone on my birthdays," Williams stated."
The day after turning 94 is not guaranteed.
"Is my life messed up?" she asked through tears.
In February, Williams' health struggles were publicly shared by her team.
Wendy Williams has been open about her medical struggles with Graves' Disease and Lymphedema, as well as other significant challenges related to her health. She has taken several absences from her talk show, "The Wendy Williams Show," beginning in 2017 after fainting on air. During an episode in 2019, she revealed she was living in a sober house.
Wendy's ability to process information has been questioned, and speculation about her condition has arisen, particularly when she exhibited erratic behavior, difficulty understanding financial transactions, and began losing words.
"In 2023, Wendy was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and FTD after undergoing numerous medical tests. Aphasia, which affects language and communication skills, and FTD, a progressive disorder that impacts behavior and cognitive functions, have significantly impacted Wendy's life."
A documentary titled "Where Is Wendy Williams?" was aired on Lifetime days later, detailing the talk-show host's struggles with substance abuse, her guardianship, and her increasingly "aggressive" behavior in interactions with others.
In the interview on Thursday, Williams admitted that she had watched the documentary, which her guardian had recommended. However, she consistently denied being "mentally incapacitated and impaired" during the interview.
Do I appear that way?" she exclaimed, "God d--- it!
Williams did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
