Valerie Bertinelli is still proud after posting a mirror selfie in her underwear on Instagram.

On "The Drew Barrymore Show" on Friday, Bertinelli discussed her recent viral post that she shared on social media.

Ross Matthews, Barrymore's co-host, inquired about Bertinelli's motive for posting the provocative photo.

She said, "I have been accepting my body, aging, and I saw myself in the light. And I thought, 'I'm not angry about that.'"

Bertinelli unveiled her midriff by lifting her red sweater, giving Barrymore and her viewers a closer look at her body.

The gesture got applause from Barrymore.

"As you can see, just like all the planks and sit-ups I've done, the saggy skin underneath is a result of 64 years of gravity," Bertinelli said. "But I'm proud of it because it's a testament to my age. It's a belly."

Bertinelli discussed the commentary she's received over the years regarding her body.

What have I learned is that my dad was incorrect. It's impossible to please everyone, and I've come to accept that.

"Well, you know what, I have been coming to terms with my body now, aging, and I saw myself in the light. And I went, ‘Oh I'm not mad at that.'" — Valerie Bertinelli

"I dislike being part of the manipulation of our brains to look a certain way and have a specific weight. I am a size 10, and I don't understand how that is too thin or too fat. I am simply me, and it's my body."

On Dec. 2, Bertinelli posted a photo of herself wearing only a bra and underwear in front of a mirror.

She wrote on Instagram: "I will eventually discuss the physical challenges I've faced this year, but for now, I feel content and grateful to be standing in front of a mirror in a hotel bathroom in downtown Manhattan, getting ready to dye my hair late on a Monday night."

Throughout the past year, the Food Network celebrity has been on a journey of self-love and healing, and has gained the support of millions of fans as she shares her relatable anecdotes online about her daily life.

Though her path to acceptance has not been straightforward, Bertinelli decided to abstain from alcohol and concentrate more on her future rather than her past earlier this year.

She has posted videos and motivational messages reminding her followers to "never forget the wonder of existing."

Bertinelli wrote that he had always been skilled at criticizing himself for his past mistakes and how he could have done better. He became proficient in judging himself as the judge, jury, and executioner.

"I no longer want to do that. I desire to live an authentic life, with my heart open to all experiences. No more judging. I will accept myself, flaws and all. What makes me unique."

Bertinelli urged her followers to reflect on unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as drinking or binge-eating, that may be hindering their ability to fully open their hearts.

Her healing journey involved working on her cookbook "Indulge" as part of her "intentional" process, which included therapy sessions and learning to deserve feeling good, according to People magazine.

Ed and my last marriage brought all the drama and trauma I hadn't dealt with. That's when I started using food to numb my feelings. I thought I didn't deserve to be loved because of it.

"The cookbook was a result of my emotional and mental healing journey," she stated. "Although we're discussing a cookbook, this cookbook helped me get through it all."

Wolfgang Van Halen, the only child of late musician Eddie Van Halen and her first husband, was born in 1991. Her last marriage was to financial planner Tom Vitale, whom she divorced in 2022.

"As I allowed myself to cry, I felt better. My intention was not to be happy, sad, or thin. Instead, I aimed to be true to myself," she stated in the book.

The Emmy Award-winning actress and writer Mike Goodnough ended their 10-month relationship in November.
