The 2024 CMA Awards' tribute to Toby Keith was not well-received by fans, who felt that it did not adequately honor the late country music legend.
The 2024 Country Music Awards hosts, Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson, and Peyton Manning, paid tribute to the late country star Keith Urban by raising a red Solo Cup in honor of his hit song "Red Solo Cup."
"Let's raise a glass to the legendary Toby Keith," Bryan declared. "A talented musician, a proud American, and a country music legend."
"Toby, you will be missed, buddy," Bryan concluded.
The group of renowned country musicians, including "Gunpowder & Lead" artist Miranda Lambert and album of the year winner Cody Johnson, raised their glasses and plastic cups in unison to a loud round of applause.
Wison mentioned Toby's hit songs "I Love This Bar" and "A Bar Song" before introducing Shaboozey, the singer of the song.
Social media users criticized the show for not giving a fitting tribute to a beloved and patriotic country music artist.
One X user wrote, "Lamest TK tribute ever!"

In the comment section of a tribute video on TikTok, users expressed their disappointment that Toby Keith didn't receive better recognition.

Earlier this year, an hourslong tribute event titled "Toby Keith: American Icon" took place at Nashville, Tennessee’s Bridgestone Arena, and some fans defended the annual award show in light of this event.
Priscilla Block, the host of "You, Me, and Whiskey," recorded and aired the show in late July and August.
Keith's hit "A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action" was performed by Carrie Underwood, while Eric Church sang "As Good As I Once Was."
Keith died on Feb. 5, 2024, after battling stomach cancer.
The "Beer for My Horses" singer's death was mourned by fans, celebrities, and military veterans, who shared their tributes and emotions.
In 2014, 2017, and 2021, Keith won the Country Music Association (CMA) award three times, and he was also nominated for several Grammy Awards.
