To maintain her identity while acting in 'Young and the Restless', the actress also works as a flight attendant.
In 1982, Linder became a part of 'The Young and the Restless' cast and has since appeared in numerous episodes.
Veteran actress Kate Linder is anything but restless.
Linder, who has been starring in "The Young and the Restless" for over 40 years, is an unusual case in Hollywood. She has a legitimate second career as a flight attendant, which she maintains for accountability.
"Linder shared with Us Weekly on Sunday that her unique schedule, which includes being on set one day, participating in a Hollywood Christmas parade the next, and serving coffee at 35,000 feet, keeps her grounded and reminds her of who she is."
In 1982, the actress, now 77, joined the show as an unnamed maid and confidant to Katherine Chancellor, the late actress Jeanne Cooper's character. She was later offered a contract and a name for her character, Esther Valentine, in 1985, thanks to Cooper, who used the name in rehearsal.
Despite appearing in over 2,000 episodes and receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2008, Linder remains unjaded.
"She shared that she has witnessed many individuals who sometimes believe their own press. She feels incredibly fortunate to do what she does and has always wanted to pursue this career. Despite her family not being involved in the business, she feels fortunate and lucky to have achieved her goals."
She continues to work as a flight attendant for United Airlines, and she acknowledges that she is occasionally recognized.
"I was standing at the gate, ready to board a plane, when a woman approached me and said, 'Kate Linder? No, you're not,'" she recalled. "I replied, 'I was when I woke up. Something's wrong. I don't know what's wrong.' She couldn't believe that I was going to be working that flight. In the end, she ended up being on that very flight."
"I’ve seen a lot of people that sometimes believe their own press." — Kate Linder on keeping herself grounded
Linder initially kept her job as a flight attendant a secret because she believed people would not take her seriously as an actress. However, over time, she met viewers on planes and shared her experiences, leading her to continue both jobs.
Linder, who has played the same character for several decades, said that each day is uncertain, even though it may seem monotonous. "It’s just like real life because you just don’t know what’s going to happen when you wake up in the morning. I don’t know what Esther’s going to do, or what’s going to happen or what’s going to come up. I am always so excited to read the scripts and find out. That’s what keeps it exciting for me. I’m very proud of our show."
