The latest celebrity plastic surgery disaster is Meghan Trainor's smile makeover.
Botox has caused Trainor to lose the ability to smile.
In Hollywood, it is common for celebrities to prioritize maintaining their youthful appearance.
Numerous celebrities undergo different types of procedures, including invasive plastic surgery and non-invasive injectables, with minimal complications or regrets.
Some celebrities, including Meghan Trainor, Christina Applegate, and Ariana Grande, have openly discussed their regrets about undergoing cosmetic procedures that did not meet their expectations.
Here's a look at some Hollywood plastic surgery disasters.
Meghan Trainor
In a recent podcast episode, Trainor admitted that she received too much Botox, resulting in the loss of her ability to smile.
"I was convinced by someone that doing a lip flip with filler above my upper lip would give me a beautiful flip, but it turned out to be false. I had never had one in my 30 years of living," she said on the "Workin’ On It with Meghan Trainor & Ryan Trainor" podcast.
"I can't smile anymore," she grumbled, "because my face hurts to smile, even when I try."
Trainor stated that her experience taught her that her smile has the power to brighten up a room, and when it's absent, it creates a dim atmosphere. She feels unhappy when she cannot smile.
She intends to undergo plastic surgery, specifically breast augmentation.
She stated that after two pregnancies, she has "saggy sacks as boobs." The "All About That Bass" singer expressed her desire for "just a little lift" and "maybe a little implant to make them say, 'We are boobs,' because right now, they are not."
Christina Applegate
In July, Applegate disclosed on her "MeSsy" podcast that she had undergone a procedure to remove the bags under her eyes when she was younger.
At the time, she was 27 and remembered a producer on a show she was working on saying, "Our lighting is having trouble under your eyes because your eye bags are so big."
She suggested removing them, saying, 'He goes, "I suggest you get them removed."'
Applegate admitted that the eye bags are "hereditary," joking that her father has "Louis Vuitton luggage under his eyes," but she felt "shame" at the producer's suggestion and did not feel confident enough to push back.
"These seeds are planted in your head, and they are our shame," she said.
"At 27 years old, I underwent my only plastic surgery, which involved removing the bags under my eyes."
Ariana Grande
In October, Vanity Fair featured "Wicked" stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo on its cover. As part of their interview, they both took a lie detector test.
Grande was questioned about plastic surgery in her portion of the test. She stated that she has never undergone a nose job, breast augmentation, or facelift, although she admitted to being interested in having a facelift in the future. However, she denied having had an eye lift, which she is frequently accused of.
She stated that she had received fillers and Botox in different areas, but she stopped four years ago, and that was the extent of her treatments.
In a Vogue interview last year, Grande discussed her past use of fillers and how it made her feel.
""I've had a lot of lip filler and Botox over the years, but I stopped in 2018 because I felt overwhelmed. I felt like hiding for a long time, and now I realize that beauty is not just about hiding," she said, wiping away tears."
She continued, "I desire to witness my hard-earned cry lines and smile lines; I hope my smile lines become more profound and I laugh more frequently."
It appears that Grande is currently leaning towards aging naturally rather than undergoing a face-lift in the future.
Valerie Bertinelli
Valerie Bertinelli was subjected to a rude comment on social media last summer, where a user remarked, "The Botox looks great" on her appearance.
"I didn't mean that as a compliment, but let's discuss it. I tried Botox and didn't like it."
She posted a photo of her appearance six years ago after undergoing the procedure and stated, "From this image, it's evident that it doesn't resemble me. The shape of my eyebrows has been altered."
Bertinelli stated, "My goal was for the product to address my genetically puffy eyes, which have always bothered me. I desire deep-set eyes, but I lack them. I will never attain them. Therefore, I must accept my current appearance."
She stated that she created the video to address the comment because the individual who made it was a woman. She inquired, "What motivated you to go above and beyond to try to embarrass me? … We are women. We must support one another, right? Don't shame someone if they want to do anything to improve their self-esteem as they navigate this chaotic and unpredictable world, please?"
Kylie Jenner
Kylie Jenner, with Kim Kardashian as her older sister, has been in the public eye since childhood. As she grew older, she faced accusations of undergoing multiple plastic surgery procedures. Although she has admitted to using lip fillers, she has never had any facial surgery done. However, just before giving birth to her first child, Stormi, she underwent a breast augmentation.
"Jenner stated on a 2023 episode of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" that she regrets having them done and advised others to wait until after having children."
She stated that she didn't want her daughter, Stormi, to repeat the actions she took at 20 when she had her in 2018, as it would break her heart.
"I regret ever touching anything," she confessed.
In the August issue of British Vogue, Jenner discussed her decision to undergo plastic surgery at a young age.
"I need to be kind to myself because, although I had a lot of responsibility at the time, I was only trying to do what was best for me. I was just doing my best as a person. I need to remember: 'It’s okay, Kylie,'" she said. "Reflecting on it now, I realize how young I was - 17 and 18 years old."
Amber Tamblyn
At age 12, Amber Tamblyn underwent surgery to pin her ears back, as detailed in her October piece for The New York Times.
Tamblyn, who started acting as a child and is recognized for her roles in "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" films and "Joan of Arcadia," shared, "As a young girl, my ears protruded like large butterfly wings. Children at my school in Los Angeles would tease me about them, and I would frequently gaze at myself in the mirror, wishing my ears would lie flat against my head."
"At age 12, I landed my first major role on a TV show and decided to undergo ear-pinning surgery, a decision I've kept private until now."
At the time, she viewed herself as a "passionate young feminist who protested against patriarchy," but "as I altered my own body, I was also a hypocrite who surrendered to it — because how could anyone not?"
The act of going under the knife was like selecting a weapon to defend myself against my own vulnerability. It demonstrated my ability to adapt to the expectations of assimilation and blend in, just like my ears used to.
Tamblyn admitted that she frequently ponders how she would be feeling today if she hadn't undergone the surgery, despite not knowing how she would actually feel in that scenario.
"I have not apologized for my actions, nor for not doing enough, but my relationship with my body has healed as I have become more protective, compassionate, and truthful."
Sharon Osbourne
Sharon Osbourne's face-lift three years ago did not go as intended.
"In an interview with The Times last year, she remembered that the worst thing she had ever done was when she looked like Cyclops, with one eye on either side and a skewed mouth, which required her to wait for it to heal before she could have it corrected."
She responded bluntly to the question about her surgery, stating that it was driven by vanity and ego. Despite compliments about her appearance, she knew the truth and saw herself differently when looking in the mirror.
"Osbourne stated, "I've been messed up many times, and this last one was a kind of fix-it job from the guy who did it before. I kind of looked like Quasimodo.""
In an interview with The Sun in April 2023, she stated that she won't undergo another face-lift.
"The last face-lift pushed me too far, and now I'm done with it. Time is running out, and I can't have another one."
Courtneney Cox
When it comes to beauty, Courteney Cox regrets using fillers.
Last year, on the "Gloss Angeles" podcast, the "Friends" actress confessed that she was surprised to realize she thought she looked good with fillers, something she no longer uses.
"Feeling like I was aging prematurely when I was young, that's frustrating; it's a vicious cycle," she said. "It's like you don't recognize that you look different. So, you keep trying harder to look normal to yourself."
Cox stated, "When you gaze into the mirror and think, 'That looks great,' you're unaware of how it appears to others. Overusing fillers and needing them removed can be frustrating, but thankfully, they can be removed. Although I made many mistakes, I'm fortunate that I can now reverse most of them. Now, I'm simply older."
