According to Reuters, King Charles was deeply saddened by Pettifer's death and reached out to the family to convey his personal condolences.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment on Planet Chronicle Digital's request.
In 1999, Charles, a former British army officer and Pettifer's father, married "Tiggy" after she had resigned as nanny to Prince William and Prince Harry.
Pettifer's stepbrother Tom served as a page at the wedding of William and Kate Middleton in 2011, while the family maintained close ties to British royalty.
The FBI stated that at least 14 individuals were killed and many others were injured in Wednesday's attack.
After Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the man identified by law enforcement as the perpetrator, plowed a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street, the heartbroken family and friends gathered to identify the growing number of victims.
New Orleans Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick stated that Jabbar was "determined to cause the destruction and harm he did."
"The superintendent of police stated that the man's behavior was deliberate and aimed at maximizing the number of people he could run over."
