Taylor Swift is being eyed as a potential replacement for Katy Perry on the 'American Idol' judging panel.
Lionel Richie is interested in having a Grammy Award winner replace Perry on the next season.
As Katy Perry's departure from "American Idol" approaches, her fellow judges are reflecting on what they will miss most about her and speculating on who should replace her on the panel.
At the "American Idol" Top 10 Tastemaker event in Los Angeles on Monday, Lionel Richie shared the moment he realized the chemistry between him, Perry and fellow judge Luke Bryan was exceptional.
"Richie said, "Katy is amazing. In the first season, she made me turn into my parents and grandparents so quickly, 'Like what are you doing? You can't do that in public.' All of my adult side came out. I realized this woman was out of control. Then Luke would come in and say something. Then I started thinking about my reputation. But then we got to the point where it settled in, and I became papa bear and had the children.""
He added that it would be difficult to find someone with the same sense of humor, and he would miss her.
Taylor Swift is the person that Richie would like to see step into Perry's role.
"If you're listening, Taylor Swift, this is a great place to stay," he said. "Luke and I would love to have you join us."
During the sixteenth season of "American Idol" in 2018, Perry, who had been serving as a judge, announced her intention to depart from the singing competition once the current season ends.
"On "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Perry declared that he believes this will likely be his final show and season on "Idol.""
She winked at the host and said, "I love 'Idol' so much, it's connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat."
Over the past seven years, Bryan has grown to love the friendship he has with Perry, despite initially having a different perception of her before starting the show.
"He told Planet Chronicle Digital that he would miss how well his and her personalities meshed on the show. There was no tension in their delivery, and last night they had a heated argument, but they didn't let it affect their relationship. In seven years, they had never had those moments where they were trying to outshine each other or step on each other's toes. Instead, they had fun and rebranded the show to appeal to a wider audience."
"As I entered the show, I had a certain understanding of Katy Perry. However, upon exiting, I realized that she is simply herself, and our conversations have always been great due to our differences and the enlightenment we provide each other."
"We've grown as friends. Lionel and I have been there throughout her motherhood," he said. "I'm excited for her to pursue her passions, but I'm also eager to reunite and catch up in the future."
Longtime host Ryan Seacrest shared Bryan's sentiment.
"He said that whoever comes in should have the same kind of impact as she did, with her generosity, love, big heart, and spirit."
Besides missing her fellow judges, Perry said she'll miss the inspiring stories and the resilience she sees in the contestants every season.
"Watching these kids grow and find their purpose is something I'll miss," said Perry to Planet Chronicle Digital. "Their struggles and triumphs inspire me, and I'll miss seeing them overcome adversity. Their determination and resilience are truly remarkable."
The upcoming "Idol" season finale frequently prompts the question of who will replace Perry.
E! News interviewed Katy Perry last week, and she expressed her enjoyment of having country music star Jelly Roll on the show. She also stated that she would like to see him join Richie and Bryan on the show.
"Jelly Roll was a wild character when he appeared on the show," she said to the outlet. "I believed everything he said. He could run for president, be my pastor, make me go back to church, and sell me anything."
Having any of these guys plus Jelly on the show would be amazing, she said, "I love you, Jelly!"
