Christina and El Moussa, who had been married for seven years, announced their separation in December 2016 and finalized their divorce in 2018. Despite their split, the former couple continued to co-star in the hit HGTV reality show "Flip or Flop" for 10 seasons, from 2013 to 2022.

In April 2022, Anstead filed for full custody of Hudson, alleging that Christina had spent little time with their son since they began co-parenting.

Josh and Christina were initially set to co-star in "The Flip-Off," a competition show where they would compete against El Moussa and Heather in a real estate flip-off. The show was announced in May, and filming began just before the couple filed for divorce on July 7.
After the divorce of the former couple, it was reported by a source to Us Weekly that Josh is no longer associated with the show, while Christina, Tarek, and Heather continued without him.
