Sundance Head's wife provides update on 'The Voice' winner's gun accident, stating that nobody shot him.

On Friday, "The Voice" winner Sundance Head was shot in the stomach on his ranch in East Texas, and his wife, Misty Head, shared an update about his condition.

A 46-year-old country singer was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas, for treatment. In a later update on her original Facebook post about the incident, Misty revealed that she had visited her husband at the hospital and shed light on the circumstances that led to the incident.

Yesterday, the boys were coming up to join him at the ranch for a weekend together. However, something unexpected happened. It was not his hunting rifle and no one shot him.

"Sundance said that he saw the bullet dislodging when he grabbed his 22 from the holster and it hit the exterior of the Jeep just right, causing it to go off. He thought he called 911, but he immediately put his hands in his pocket for his phone, only to find it filled with blood. He then ran down the driveway and out to the main road to flag a car down for help."

Before one driver stopped to help, 10 cars passed by Misty's wounded husband.

"Misty wrote that he is heavily medicated at the moment and grateful to be alive. She thanked the Good Samaritan who stopped and helped, as well as the fast response by life flight and the doctors."

Sundance's children were present as Misty felt relieved to "see him with my own eyes and hear his voice."

"Despite the last several hours, he is in good spirits because no internal damage was done by the bullet. Thank you all for your prayers."

Sundance's condition was stable during the flight to the hospital, but he would require immediate surgery upon arrival, according to paramedics. However, in a later update, Misty revealed that doctors had decided against performing surgery to remove the bullet.

"The bullet lodged in the doctor's abdominal wall above his navel, missing all vital organs. He will not require surgery as they are not removing the bullet," she wrote. "I'm sure she said why, but my head is in a fog right now. The fact that he is on the bigger side was a good thing. The bullet is in his fatty tissue. Thank you for all the prayers."

Sundance was set to be discharged from the hospital that evening, but Misty expressed concern about his early release and suggested they seek a second medical opinion.

Since no surgery is necessary to remove the bullet (it's safer to leave it in place, as advised by the trauma doctor), they are discharging him. I'm grateful for the care, but I'm concerned about the quick release. He's already bleeding out from the wound, and no antibiotics or pain medication are being sent home. I plan to take him home and seek a second opinion. I just don't feel right about this.

"I am grateful for the care and your prayers. I have received numerous messages and will respond to them. It's amazing how quickly he has gone from being life-flighted to being released. Please continue to pray for a quick recovery."

On Saturday, Sundance's injury made the drive home from the trip difficult, but they arrived early in the morning. Misty shared a photo of the black sleeveless shirt Sundance was wearing when he was shot in a post on Saturday.

She explained that the ride home was difficult for him as the medication was wearing off, he was bleeding profusely through his dressings, and he was only wearing a hospital gown, with all his clothes left at the ranch.

"I was able to change and clean out the dressing and repack him, though he's not an easy patient. I gave him some Motrin and was worried about him as he was, but hearing him snore was music to my ears. The dressing held, but I will change it again shortly. I'm posting a pic of his shirt just so y'all can see how lucky he was. Any higher or lower would have been devastating."

"God is AWESOME," she said. "He'll definitely have a lot to say and once he feels up to it, I'll have him do a video in his own words. You all know he has a way with words and won't just have a song to write but an entire album about this accident. Thank you all."

Jason Head, also known as Sundance, has been married to Misty for 18 years and they have two sons, Levi, 18, and Brazos, 10, according to Taste of Country.

In 2016, Sundance won "The Voice" competition show, with Blake Shelton as their coach. In 2007, Sundance made it to the semifinals of "American Idol."

Sundance has released four albums: "2016 & Gruene" in 2012, "Soul Country" in 2015, "Stained Glass and Neon" in 2019, and "Starting Again" in 2022.
