Sting delivers an unexpected emotional tribute at Ethel Kennedy's funeral.
Stevie Wonder and Kenny Chesney sang surprise renditions of 'Isn't She Lovely' and 'You are My Sunshine' respectively.
On Wednesday, three musical superstars, including Sting, Kenny Chesney and Stevie Wonder, were present at Ethel Kennedy's funeral.
Sting, accompanied by his guitar, unexpectedly performed his poignant 1987 song "Fragile" at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, DC, following a eulogy by former President Clinton.
Ethel Kennedy's grandson, Joe Kennedy III, revealed a surprise at the funeral, expressing gratitude and honor for a singer who his grandmother adored.
"Our family singalongs sound just like that, don't they?" he joked after Sting finished.
At the conclusion of the service, President Biden became visibly emotional while listening to the song and later stated that Kennedy's words reminded him of his own mother.
Ethel and Rory Kennedy were the subject of a country song performed by Kenny Chesney prior to his conversation with Sting.
"As soon as I entered Ethel's house, she and I instantly connected on a deep level, and I am forever grateful for that friendship," Chesney stated before beginning to sing. "Whenever I was near your mother, she made me feel wonderful because she radiated warmth and positivity."
Before Biden's eulogy, Joe Kennedy revealed that Stevie Wonder was a "dear friend of my grandfather and grandmother," and he was "honored to announce one final surprise."
Ethel Kennedy's presence prompted Wonder to resume touring, stating that he intended to console her and express his affection towards her.
Before performing a unique rendition of "Isn't She Lovely," he began by singing "The Lord's Prayer." He then inserted Ethel's name into the song and encouraged the audience to join him in singing along, using his harmonica to enhance the performance.
In his eulogy, Biden quipped that Wonder had informed him that if he received another Grammy, he intended to present it to the president.
He chuckled at the fact that he was the only person in the church who couldn't sing.
Ethel Kennedy, the widow of former Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, passed away at the age of 96 last Thursday. Robert F. Kennedy was tragically assassinated in June 1968 during his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination.
