Since his divorce from Theresa Nist due to cancer, 'Golden Bachelor' Gerry Turner has been dating a new woman.
In June, Turner and Nist officially ended their marriage.
Despite his divorce and cancer diagnosis, "Golden Bachelor" star Gerry Turner is determined to find love again.
""I have been on and off with dating, but currently, I am seeing someone and will continue my search for my partner until the end of my life," Turner, 73, shared with Planet Chronicle Digital."
The reality TV star and retired restaurateur discussed his cancer journey, his split with Nist, and how his new love interest is "quite refreshing" in an exclusive interview with Planet Chronicle Digital.
"Let's not jump to conclusions just yet," Turner replied when asked about the new woman in his life. "It's still early days. We haven't been together for very long."
"He described his new fling as having a certain freedom and acceptance for who he is. There is a humorous lack of understanding of his past in the last year and a half. It's refreshing to have someone who hasn't seen all the history in a relationship with him. They didn't watch the show, they're not interested in what's on social media, and they don't care."
In January of this year, Turner and Nist got married in a televised ceremony following Turner's proposal in the season finale of the ABC reality dating series.
Gerry Turner has been dating a new woman since his cancer diagnosis led to a divorce from Theresa Nist.
In Petersburg, Indiana, on April 12, Turner filed for divorce, stating "irreconcilable differences" as the reason, just hours after their split was announced on "Good Morning America."
"Theresa and I have had numerous heart-to-heart conversations," he stated on "GMA." "We have carefully examined our living situations and have reached a mutual agreement that it is time for us to dissolve our marriage. The most striking aspect of our conversations is the dedication we both have to our families. As a result, we believe that it is in the best interest of our happiness to live separately."
"Every day, I support this person whom I still love deeply, with no uncertainty."
The duo finalized their divorce in June.
In March, Turner disclosed to People magazine that he had been diagnosed with bone marrow cancer.
"Turner revealed that he has been hesitant to discuss his split from Nist until now, but believes it's time to do so in order to clarify the mystery surrounding their relationship from February to April."
Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with cancer while Theresa and I were trying to find our lifestyle and living arrangements.
According to Turner, his bone marrow cancer is known as Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, a type of cancer that starts in white blood cells and is classified as a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist have had "almost no conversation" about his cancer journey.
"Unfortunately, there is no cure for it, which heavily influences every decision I make. It felt like 10 tons of concrete had been dropped on me, and for a while, I was in denial, unwilling to accept it."
According to Turner, his diagnosis played a significant role in his decision to end his relationship with Nist.
"The mystery that people have been wondering about all this time is what's going on," he said. "The question has always been, 'What's the truth behind this? There must be more to the story.' And after receiving the news and going through a period of shock, I realized the most important things. I returned to my old habits and feelings of family, my two daughters, and the loss of my wife, which affected not just me but also my girls."
"Although I'm not certain it's entirely rational, sometimes emotions aren't logical," he remarked. "Nevertheless, the impact on my relationship with Theresa and our marriage was significant."
Nist expressed hope despite Turner's devastating news.
"She said that he believed he would most likely outlive the type of cancer he had, and she had faith that it would not affect his life and that he would live to be a very healthy old age."
Despite the diagnosis, Turner admitted that he and his family have had "almost no conversation" about his journey so far.
"He revealed to Planet Chronicle Digital that there had been minimal communication with Theresa regarding her cancer diagnosis. Since he informed her in February, they only had one brief follow-up conversation, and that was it."
""For quite some time, there has been no communication," he stated."
Nist's well-being is what Turner desires the most.
"He stated that he had no animosity towards anyone and felt no negative emotions. He wished for her to achieve great success in her endeavors."
Planet Chronicle Digital's Janelle Ash contributed to this report.
