Over the past 20 seasons, Sig Hansen has faced a persistent challenge as captain on "Deadliest Catch."

During an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, Hansen stated that while the crew encounters numerous difficulties on the Bering Sea, the weather presents a perpetual challenge for those on board.

"Hansen stated, "Life presents challenges, and the challenge is to succeed. I've faced life-threatening situations, and I believe the biggest challenge is the weather. It's always a significant challenge to keep your team motivated, especially in extreme weather conditions.""

The captain continued, "You know, finding crab is inevitable. It may take time, but it will happen. And if you're skilled and knowledgeable, it'll happen even more easily."

There have been several life-threatening situations Hansen has been in over the years.

Hansen stated that they have faced challenges such as the boat icing down to the point of no return and mechanical issues like crab tanks filling with water when they shouldn't, which caused instability on the boat.

I've witnessed numerous challenges, including boats sinking eight miles away from me, leaving nothing I can do. Similarly, I've seen friends disappear in front of my eyes, leaving me helpless.

Sig concluded that it was a challenging task.

The 20th season of "Deadliest Catch" will be released on June 11, with Captain Jake Anderson returning to Hansen's ship as a greenhorn after losing his own boat.

Despite not being initially intended for a family audience, "Deadliest Catch" has become successful due to its multi-generational appeal.

"Firstly, the show is blue collar and has a strong work ethic, which I believe is respected by viewers. I think the show's success comes from improvements in photography, camera technology, and the quality of the people recording it. My wife and I are big fans and feel like we're part of the action when we watch it."

Twenty years ago, it was not the case. So, I believe it brings you closer and into our living room. It's successful because it's multi-generational, with grandma, grandpa, grandson, and granddaughter watching. It's just multi-generational, and I've said it before: This was not meant to be a family program. We do have foul language and do horrible things that should not be done, and families watch it together. It ain't a family program, but that's what it turned out to be.

Recognition as the captain of the F/V Northwestern for 20 seasons is not the most rewarding aspect for Hansen.

When people tell me that I inspire them, it's rewarding to know that my show helped them get through a difficult time, Hansen stated.

Making a positive impact on others through my fame is a rewarding experience.

In 2005, when "Deadliest Catch" premiered, Sig told Planet Chronicle Digital that the show's longevity was uncertain and it would be "lucky" to last for a decade.

"I feel like the show is on autopilot," he said. "My mind is like, 'You take some things for granted.' I know it's not just me, but everyone takes it for granted because it's supposed to be there."

Over the years, "Deadliest Catch" has become a show that appeals to all generations, as he reiterated his earlier sentiment.

Hansen stated, "It's astonishing how, regardless of age, I encounter a generational bond that unites individuals. This generational link astounds me."

The 20th season of "Deadliest Catch" featuring Sig and the crew will air on Discovery Channel starting June 11.
