Shyne, a former protégé of Sean 'Diddy' Combs, claims that the disgraced music mogul "ruined" his life.
Multiple sex crime charges led to Sean 'Diddy' Combs being ordered to remain in custody without bail.
Recalling the 1999 New York nightclub shooting, Moses "Shyne" Barrow remembered how Sean "Diddy" Combs forever altered the course of his life.
Belize politician Shyne, a former Bad Boy rapper, spoke about his past with fallen music mogul Diddy after Diddy's arrest and charges for racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking as the alleged leader of a criminal enterprise.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Barrow stated, "At 18 years old, all I wanted was to make my mother and Belize proud, be recognized for my talent, and conquer the world."
He turned around and called witnesses to testify against me, effectively sending me to prison.
"Although I forgave and moved on, it's important to acknowledge that I was not in Miami for Thanksgiving and Christmas."
In 1998, Shyne, who is now the Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives, was a rising star in the hip-hop world and signed with Bad Boy Records. One year later, he joined Diddy and his girlfriend at the time, Jennifer Lopez, at the now defunct Club New York in Times Square when gunfire broke out.
Three people, including a woman who was shot in the face, were injured during the scuffle. Lopez, Combs, and his bodyguard, Anthony "Wolf" Jones, fled in a Lincoln and were later pulled over by the NYPD for running a red light.
"I forgave. I moved on. But let us not pretend as if I was in Miami for Thanksgiving and Christmas." — Shyne
Lopez was released, but Diddy, Jones, and Shyne were charged with multiple offenses. Diddy and Jones were found not guilty at trial, while Shyne was convicted on five of eight counts and sentenced to 10 years in prison. After his release, Shyne was deported to Belize.
In 2023, Shyne forgave the "Victory" rapper and surprised the audience by appearing on stage with Bad Boy Records founder in London.
We must not forget the reality of the situation," Shyne emphasized. "This person is not someone I shared a vacation with and someone I had a deep, intimate brotherly relationship with.
This person destroyed my life, but I forgave them and moved on. Despite their past actions, I would not deny attempting to bring investment and contribute to education in Belize.
"Am I happy about what he's going through? Not at all. I'm unique and don't need others to fail for me to succeed."
Diddy, 54, was accused on Tuesday of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. If convicted, he could face a minimum of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
Not only was Combs denied a proposed $50 million bail, he was immediately sent to jail after pleading not guilty in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday.
