Sandra Lee's new dream home in California is at risk due to wildfires, following her split from Cuomo and cancer battle.
On January 7th, the Food Network celebrity left her Malibu residence.
Sandra Lee is no stranger to heartbreak.
Despite facing numerous challenges, including the deaths of her aunt and uncle, her breakup with Andrew Cuomo, and battling breast cancer, the Food Network star has shown resilience. Now, Lee, who evacuated from her Malibu home due to the LA wildfires on Tuesday, may face another possible loss.
On January 7th, Lee posted horrifying videos of the fire ravaging the hills near her house.
"My beloved Malibu home has been my sanctuary during some of my darkest times," she wrote in the caption. "I have cherished every moment I have spent creating, embellishing, building, caring for, and protecting it. As the fire threatens to consume it, I pray for its safety and for the well-being of my community in Los Angeles. This is a truly terrifying moment for us all."
"As the fire approaches our doorstep, please remain in contact with one another; our community is our lifeline during these trying times."
The next day, Lee shared an emotional video on Instagram, revealing that her house had been destroyed.
"Thank you for all your prayers. I'm still trying to process everything that happened. I'm truly grateful that we're all safe. My house is gone and I cried all night thinking about every room, nook, and cranny. It was perfection and now it's just ash. Please keep our community, firefighters, and first responders in your prayers. This is not over – not even close."
On Thursday, Lee expressed uncertainty about the status of her home, as she had received conflicting reports.
"Last night, I learned that my house had burned down in a fire. I couldn't sleep all night and spent it crying and worrying. An hour ago, my real estate agent called to inform me that my house and the neighbor's houses were still standing. However, my neighbor's friend had just driven past and reported that both houses were destroyed, leaving everything gone."
"My insurance broker called me and said he couldn't get down the street, and no one is allowed on PCH. I haven't been in my house for two days and have no idea what's going on. This is the most stressful thing, and I'm trying to stay calm, but I feel such a loss. I can't see my house, and I don't know if my friends and family's homes or my own home stands."
"I am anxious, emotional, and overwhelmed, but the most important thing is that everyone is okay. I am praying for our homes, memories, and community. My heart breaks for the neighbors I know who have lost their homes. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. I am unsure."
In November 2019, Lee bought the Malibu house following her separation from Cuomo, as reported by People magazine.
Planet Chronicle Digital has reached out to Lee's rep for comment.
Prior to evacuating her home, Lee had faced her share of hardships.
In 2015, Sandra Lee, the host of "Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee," was diagnosed with breast cancer, specifically ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). She underwent a double mastectomy and later a complete hysterectomy.
Four years after their separation, she encountered another challenge when she split from Cuomo, who she had been with for 14 years. Despite not being married, they had a long-term relationship.
Lee revealed the moment she realized her relationship had ended last year.
Lee explained to Us Weekly, "I was in my kitchen when he said something. The minute he said it, I knew what he'd just said. Every window and door closed, and that was it."
In the spring of 2019, Lee declined to reveal the specifics of the remark he made.
"We both know what it is," she stated.
At the time of their separation, Lee and Cuomo were leading "separate" lives and spending less time together.
Cuomo's breakup with Lee was kept private by her, as she didn't share many details about it.
"Living separately does not build a joint life," she stated to the media.
In June 2023, Lee shared the tragic news of the passing of her aunt Peggy and uncle Bill, who had been influential figures in her life since her teenage years.
"This is the saddest thing I will ever write. My wonderful Uncle Bill has passed away. He was a Father to me, my only real Dad," Lee wrote on Instagram, accompanied by a carousel of photos of her uncle.
As a baby, Lee lived with her uncle and aunt "on and off," but as she grew older, her bond with them only strengthened.
"My uncle was my mentor, protector, facilitator, confidant, and best friend. He would smile when I was nice but burst in laughter when I was naughty. He accepted me with all my flaws and imperfections."
Sandra Lee, a Food Network star, praised Bob Mackie at the Daily Front Row's eighth annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards.
Lee revealed that her aunt had passed away five months before her uncle a day later.
""One day she was here, the next not. That's how they both disappeared," Lee wrote on Instagram."
Throughout all her challenges, Lee said the last decade made her "more knowledgeable and resilient."
Lee has accepted that she will never fully recover from the heartache of losing the previous 10 years, as the grief has persisted indefinitely. However, she intends to utilize this pain as a source of motivation and growth, becoming wiser and stronger as a result.
"I can assert that the past ten years have been the most difficult period of my existence."
