Sally Field, a Kamala Harris supporter, criticizes campaign sign following Donald Trump's election victory.
During his campaign, Donald Trump, the future president, stated that the right to abortion should be decided by the states.
Sally Field did not get what she wanted for her birthday.
On Wednesday, the actress, who turned 78, was spotted outside her home in Los Angeles the day after the presidential election, discarding a sign backing Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota.
The "Steel Magnolias" actress also destroyed a sign that read, "Vote for pro-choice, pro-equality, and pro-democracy on November 5."
Field exited her house with a relaxed demeanor, donning sweatpants and a button-down shirt. She had her hair in braids and airpods in her ears, giving off an air of determination as she proceeded to remove the signs from the ground and dispose of them in the bins on the street.
Planet Chronicle Digital did not receive an immediate response from a representative for Field when requested a comment.
On Tuesday, Field and her son, both wearing Harris-Walz gear, urged people to vote for democracy, human rights, women's rights, sanity, hope, and Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
Last month, Field publicly supported the current vice president while simultaneously confessing her vulnerability about her youth. In a heartfelt Instagram video, Field disclosed that at the age of 17, she had an abortion in Mexico.
I was reluctant to share my harrowing experience, but I realized that many women of my generation went through similar traumatic events. I feel stronger knowing this and believe we must fight for our grandchildren and the young women of this country.
Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are gaining support from many people due to their commitment to protecting reproductive freedom. It is crucial to pay attention to the election, particularly in states with ballot initiatives that could impact reproductive rights. We must not go back to a time when reproductive freedom was restricted.
At the time of her graduation from high school, Field lacked financial and emotional support from her family. When she discovered she was pregnant, a family friend, who was also a doctor, drove her to Tijuana for the procedure. Accompanying her on the journey were the doctor's wife and her mother.
"She went through a life-altering experience when she underwent the procedure without anesthetic, only receiving "a few puffs of ether" from a technician. Despite feeling numb, she felt every ounce of pain and realized the technician was molesting her. She had to quickly figure out how to move her arms to push him away."
The whole experience left Field feeling "an absolute pit of shame," and when the procedure was finished, she was hurriedly ushered out. "They didn't want me there . . . it was illegal."
Months later, Field began auditioning for acting roles and by the end of that year, she had landed the role of 'Gidget,' embodying the quintessential All-American, girl-next-door image.
In reality, she admits that the depiction was accurate because many women of her generation were going through similar experiences. These are the challenges that women face today. It is impossible to go back to that time and do the same to our daughters and young women without respecting their health and autonomy in making decisions about their reproductive choices.
In 2022, following the overturn of Roe v. Wade, 13 states have enacted a complete abortion ban with few exceptions, while 28 other states have restrictions based on gestational duration.
During his campaign, Donald Trump, the president-elect, advocated for state-level regulation of abortion.
