Ryan Reynolds spent six years working on 'Deadpool & Wolverine' to avoid being an absentee father.

The "Deadpool" franchise's future is being discussed by Ryan Reynolds.
Reynolds discussed with Garfield in a recent interview why he believes the "Deadpool" films appeal to audiences, suggesting it could be due to "scarcity and surprise." However, he admitted he is unsure if there will be additional installments.
"He explained to Garfield that it had been six years since the last movie in the franchise, and one of the reasons for this was that it consumed his entire life. With four kids, he didn't want to be an absentee dad. Seeing his children do something he missed made him feel terrible."
The actor has four children with wife Blake Lively, including daughters James, Inez, and Betty, and a son born in 2023.
Reynolds stated that he is uncertain about the future of "Deadpool," but he is content with the final product. He intended the film to be a comprehensive experience, rather than just a promotional tool for another project.
Reynolds discussed his decision to become a producer for the film series and later co-wrote the second and third installments. He remembered making films that were well-received by critics but not by audiences. He realized he needed to find a way to appeal to both sides of the audience.
"I have four kids, and I don’t ever want to be an absentee [dad]. I kind of die inside when I see their faces, and they do a sports thing or something and I missed it." — Ryan Reynolds
Garfield and he shared the experience of being cast in blockbuster movies where they "understood the risks, but had no control over the outcome." Garfield described it as feeling like being a "monkey rattling a cage."
"Reynolds stated that it is a terrible feeling when one tries to express a reasonable point of view, such as "Let's stop spending on spectacle and let's spend on character" or "Why are we putting all the money in special effects when we could just write?", but it is dismissed."
If that happens a few times, you'll say, 'I own the bomb.' If I'm going to bomb, I want to be the one who chooses my own demise. I don't want to be a passenger on someone else's nosediving jet plane.
The release of "Deadpool & Wolverine" in July was the most eagerly awaited summer movie, and it eventually earned more than $1 billion worldwide.
The movie featured the return of popular superheroes such as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, and introduced Channing Tatum as Gambit.
"Garner revealed on Instagram that he didn't realize Elektra and he needed an ending, but Shawn and Ryan did. He stated that they are talented in many ways, but their top priority is uplifting people around them."
Shauna and I were ecstatic on set with our co-stars, including my longtime friend @thehughjackman, @dafnekeen, @channingtatum, and @realwesleysnipes. The fight scene was a blast to shoot, and being there with everyone made it even more special. I'm so proud of my friends and grateful for the opportunity to work with them. Words can't express how grateful I am, but it's a start.
