Phil Robertson, a star on the reality show "Duck Dynasty," has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease.
In the "Unashamed with the Robertson Family" podcast episode on Friday, Jase, Phil's son, disclosed his diagnosis.
Jase stated that Phil is not doing well, and he believes he spoke on the 1000th podcast while trying to diagnose the issue. However, according to the doctors, Phil has a blood disease that is causing various problems.
He's struggling due to accelerated problems with his entire body and early stages of Alzheimers.
Jase revealed that Phil was a significant contributor to the "Unashamed" podcast, but due to his declining health, he is now "unable to sit down and have a conversation." Additionally, Jase noted that his father can barely walk around without "crying out in pain."
"It's like accelerated, and it's causing problems with his entire body. And he has early stages of Alzheimers. So, if you put those things together, he's really not doing well. He's struggling." — Jase Robertson
"The podcast stories are missed by him," Jase stated.
The Robertson Family, consisting of Phil, Jase, Phil's son, Alan, and Phil's nephew, Zach Dasher, were unashamed.
Jase learned from the team of doctors that "there's no cure for what Phil has."
He remarked that we were attempting to make him feel more at ease.
In the podcast episode, Jase mentioned that the Robertson family is grateful for the prayers and support being sent to Phil.
From 2012 to 2017, Phil starred on "Duck Dynasty" and founded the Duck Commander Company.
In 2013, the "Duck Dynasty" patriarch was suspended by A&E for comparing gay people to hell-bound sinners in a GQ interview. This sparked a backlash among his supporters who believed he was being silenced by the network, which eventually reinstated him.
In 2022, Phil published a book titled "Uncanceled," which examined the intersection of cancel culture and Christianity.
"Robertson stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that he did not hold a grudge against those who attacked him. They questioned him about a specific sin, homosexuality, and asked if he believed it was a sin. Robertson replied by quoting a Bible verse about the sin and the nine other sins listed in the Bible. However, the upper management at A&E dropped him from the show without investigating the situation first."
The show's suspension was praised by gay rights groups, while conservative fans argued that their perspectives were often ignored by Hollywood and the media. Over 500,000 people liked a Facebook page calling for a boycott of the show until Robertson returned.
"Robertson stated, "I was put on an indefinite hiatus and questioned if I was being fired. Being on hiatus meant I was no longer part of the program. After nine days, I was reinstated, but several sponsors left. They mocked what I said, and I was canceled. However, despite this, I still love them and do not hold any hatred towards anyone.""
He stated that the Bible advises us to love our neighbors, despite their errors.
In 2012, Robertson and his family gained fame as TV and pop culture personalities due to the success of "Duck Dynasty," which broke cable ratings for a non-fiction series.
The New York Times reported that Season 5 of "Duck Dynasty" experienced a significant audience decline following the controversy surrounding Phil Robertson. The show ended in 2017 after 11 seasons.
Robertson said he has no regrets about doing the GQ interview.
No regrets at all – none," he said. "I just went on. I never called A&E and asked, 'What are you doing?' I never spoke when they visited me 10 days later. I asked, 'Did y'all ever hear from me with an angry phone call? Because you were firing me?' They replied, 'Mr. Robertson, you never spoke.' ... I quoted a Bible verse about homosexual behavior.
Phil stated that he quoted a Bible verse written by Paul the Apostle through the power of the Holy Spirit, and he did not come up with it on his own. He only quoted it and did not elaborate further.
