The authorities have determined that Liam Payne's death was not caused by suicide in the fall he experienced last month.
The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office in Argentina confirmed in a press release that Payne's injuries were caused by a fall from a height and that self-harm and physical intervention by third parties were ruled out.
Payne did not adopt a reflex posture to protect herself from the fall and may have fallen in a state of semi or total unconsciousness.
On October 16, Payne passed away due to the fall he sustained from the balcony of the third floor room of a hotel in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, where he was staying, as stated by the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office No. 16, currently led by Marcelo Roma.
The Buenos Aires police discovered Payne's hotel room in disarray, with various items broken. Clonazepam, energy supplements, and other over-the-counter drugs were scattered among his belongings, according to the Associated Press. Forensics teams also retrieved a whiskey bottle, lighter, and cellphone from the internal courtyard where Payne's body was found.
On Wednesday, three suspects were arrested and charged with involvement in Payne's death. These include the artist's daily companion, a hotel employee, and an alleged drug dealer.
The person who accompanied the artist daily during his stay in Buenos Aires was charged with abandonment followed by death, according to the release.
Two hotel employees, the second and third defendants, are accused of supplying cocaine to Liam Payne during his stay at the hotel. The second defendant is charged with two proven supplies of cocaine, while the third defendant is accused of two other clearly proven supplies during two different times on October 14. Both defendants are being charged with the crime of supplying narcotics.
The toxicological studies conducted on Payne's urine, blood, and vitreous humor revealed that he only had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant in his body in the hours leading up to his death.
Geoff Payne received the body of his deceased son after an autopsy was completed and concluded last weekend.
Cheryl Cole and Payne had a 7-year-old son, Bear, together.
The investigation is ongoing, as stated in the release, since the unlocking of the victim's personal netbook and other devices seized during the investigation are still ongoing.
