The actor who played Pete Cochran in "The Mod Squad," Michael Cole, has passed away at the age of 84, as confirmed by Planet Chronicle Digital.
On Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Cole passed away at the Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center. No cause of death has been disclosed.
Cole passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by loved ones, after living a full and vibrant life, according to a representative who spoke to Variety.
Cole, the actor, was born on July 3, 1940, in Madison, Wisconsin. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cole never knew his father. He and his older brother lived with their mother and grandmother in the latter's home during his early years.
Cole started drinking at the age of 12 and was accustomed to getting into trouble. At 16, he left high school and married his pregnant girlfriend. The ex-couple had two kids, Candi and Jeff, before divorcing.
Cole relocated from Wisconsin to Las Vegas, where he encountered Bobby Darin, a renowned singer and actor. Later, he shifted to Los Angeles and resided beneath a freeway, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.
In 2018, Cole stated that Harman had a significant influence on his life. Harman recognized what was inside him before he did, and she provided him with free acting lessons and allowed him to sleep on the stage of her workshop, according to the outlet.
Several years later, Aaron Spelling contacted Cole to propose a role in "The Mod Squad."
In his book "I Played The White Guy," published in 2018, Cole described this encounter in detail.
"I declined the role in Spelling's show, stating, 'The concept is ridiculous, and I hope it never gets broadcasted,' as written in Cole's book, according to The Hollywood Reporter." "I wasn't interested in portraying a character who betrayed other troubled teenagers."
Over five seasons, "The Mod Squad" aired for 123 episodes. During his time on the show, Cole was involved in a serious car wreck that sent him flying through his windshield. He needed 130 stitches, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Cole is survived by his third wife, Shelley Funes.
