Martha Stewart's ex-husband and his wife claim that their marriage with the lifestyle mogul was "painful and abusive."
Martha is accused of continuing to publicly relitigate her marriage in a sensationalized documentary by Andrew and Shyla Stewart.
Martha Stewart's ex-husband and wife have responded to allegations made by the lifestyle guru in the new documentary "Martha."
In the Netflix film, Andrew was accused by his wife, Martha, of having multiple affairs during their 29-year marriage, and it was also revealed that Martha had been unfaithful to him.
"If your husband cheats on you while you're married, he's a worthless piece of s--- and you should leave the marriage, according to Martha, who was married to Andrew from 1961 to 1990, as stated in the documentary's trailer."
Both Andrew and Shyla signed and posted a statement about their response on Facebook prior to the documentary's release on October 30th.
Shyla posted on Facebook: "This is my first and only public comment on this topic. As I am not active on any other social media platform, this is the only place I am sharing this."
My husband, Andrew Stewart, is a brilliant publisher, avocational naturalist, and nature photographer known for his gentle, soft-spoken, and kind-hearted nature.
"Our connection, which began as colleagues 12 years ago, has evolved into a deep and everlasting love, to our mutual surprise," Shyla stated.
"Andy and I have constructed a life of beauty, meaning, productivity, and purpose, centered on our shared devotion to the Earth and our families. This life is infused with true love, which we share fully with our blended family of 5 amazing adult children, our 3 adorable grandchildren, our extended family, and many cherished friends."
She discussed Andrew's past struggles, stating that he had faced hardships prior to their romantic relationship.
Andy had a history of dark chapters in his life, including a painful and abusive marriage to Martha Stewart, which ended almost 40 years ago, according to Shyla.
Martha continues to publicly relitigate the marriage, including comments in a sensationalized trailer for an upcoming documentary on Netflix, while Andy quietly moved on and forward with his life.
Shyla remarked on the stark contrast between Andy's early life and our current joyful, purposeful, and loving marriage, which we openly express our gratitude for every day.
In her post, she expressed her wish for everyone, including Martha herself, to have the experience of loving and being loved deeply and fully, and the peace that comes from such a love, as she featured photos of herself and Andrew.
According to Fieldstone Publishing's website, Shyla is the president and CEO, while Andrew holds the title of publisher emeritus.
Representatives from Planet Chronicle Digital contacted Martha, Andrew, and Shyla for comment.
In the documentary, Martha recounted that she and Andrew, their daughter Alexis's parents, both had extramarital affairs.
Andrew was accused by Martha of having multiple girlfriends, being unhappy at home, and cheating on her with her former assistant, Robyn Fairclough.
In May 1993, Andrew, who was three years divorced from Martha, married Fairclough, who was 21 years younger than him. However, they later divorced.
During their honeymoon in Florence, Italy, Martha confessed to Andrew that she had kissed a stranger in a cathedral.
Martha confessed to having a brief affair with an attractive Irishman, but she believes Andrew was unaware of it.
Andrew admitted to Cutler that he was aware of the affair and that Martha had "admitted it" to him.
Cutler stated that he remained faithful to the marriage until he learned you had cheated first.
"I don't think that's true," Martha replied.
"Martha" is available to stream on Netflix.
