Mark Wahlberg's Tips for Parents Sending Kids to College
Clemson University is where the oldest daughter of 'The Union' star, Ella, is currently enrolled.
Any parent sending a child off to college in the fall can receive simple advice from Mark Wahlberg.
He told Planet Chronicle Digital that it's a beautiful thing to encourage people to pursue their dreams, take risks on themselves, and dream big.
"To achieve big goals, it's essential to do the small tasks. Therefore, doing the work, believing in yourself, not fearing failure, and staying focused are crucial."
Wahlberg has four children with his wife of 15 years, Rhea Durham, who are aged 20, 18, 15, and 14.
Earlier this week, the family made a rare red carpet appearance at the premiere of Wahlberg's new movie, "The Union," featuring Halle Berry.
Michael, Brendan, and Grace joined Wahlberg and Durham at the event, while Ella, who is studying at Clemson University in South Carolina, was unable to attend.
"It’s a beautiful thing, just encouraging them to pursue their dreams, to take a chance on themselves and to dream big." — Mark Wahlberg
Mark Wahlberg is incredibly proud of his daughter's college enrollment.
He stated that the most enjoyable experience they had was visiting their daughter during parents' weekend and getting a taste of college life.
During parents' weekend last year, Wahlberg and his wife crashed a fraternity party.
Wahlberg remembered in a new interview with Entertainment Tonight that he had never seen anyone have as much fun as they were, even surpassing his sister's trip to Vegas. He was at a frat house and a few other spots in town.
"Parents' weekend was incredible," he added, "It was nuts."
The memory of that visit brought back feelings of regret for him about not experiencing college life.
He told Planet Chronicle Digital, "I felt like, 'Wow, I had a big regret not finishing high school until later on, but an even bigger one not having that college experience,'"
In 2013, after dropping out of high school in ninth grade, "Father Stu" star earned his GED.
He revealed that his children were his driving force, stating, "I didn't want my kids to say, 'You didn't accomplish it, so why should I bother?' They all aspire to achieve things in the future that necessitate an education."
Wahlberg also said he was interested in possibly furthering his education.
""I would love to study film at USC and further my career while broadening my horizon," he said."
As his other children embark on the process of determining their college plans, the proud dad eagerly anticipates their success.
"He told Planet Chronicle Digital that it's a priceless time and he eagerly anticipates others experiencing it, as his other children attend school."
"It made me feel like, 'Wow, I had a big regret not finishing high school ‘til later on, but definitely even bigger not having that college experience.’" — Mark Wahlberg
Wahlberg's four children may excite him, but his wife is less enthusiastic.
"My wife's sole purpose is to be a mom and she wants everyone in the house under one roof, never growing up. She doesn't like change and doesn't like the idea of kids leaving home," he explained.
Recently, the Wahlberg family made a significant change to their living arrangements by relocating to the Las Vegas area in 2022.
Last year, he informed Planet Chronicle Digital that the move would provide the children with an opportunity to flourish.
Mark Wahlberg's wife is struggling with her children going off to college because she doesn't like change.
"Las Vegas offers the best of both worlds, with the Strip being the popular choice among many, but just a short distance away are family-oriented and community-focused areas."
Wahlberg recently demonstrated his commitment to his wife by revealing the permanent romantic gesture he made for her.
During his appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Monday night, the "Daddy's Home" actor disclosed that he got Rhea's name inked on his ring finger as a Valentine's Day gift one year ago.
He explained that he could always have [this] even if he wasn't wearing his ring or working.
He joked that when she saw it, she said, "That's the nicest thing you've ever done." He replied, "Well, can I have back the expensive jewelry and just get you one of these too?"
The man, who is 53 years old, stated that he only has one tattoo left on his body after removing all the others in a lengthy and painful process that took five years. He aimed to complete this process before appearing in "The Fighter" in 2010 to avoid having to cover them up for filming.
Having tattoos removed feels like being subjected to "hot bacon grease being flicked on you repeatedly."
"Hopefully, the technology has improved by now," he added.
