Malibu wildfires: Brooke Burke's key tips for surviving natural disasters
Last week, Brooke Burke and her family evacuated their home due to the Franklin Fire, but have now returned.
Malibu was devastated by the recent Franklin Fire, but Brooke Burke was happy to be prepared.
Burke, who has evacuated her Malibu home four times, keeps a fire box ready for emergencies, as she explained during an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital.
Burke advised getting a fire box because it contains important documents and sentimental items that cannot be replaced, such as baby books, hospital bracelets, and old photos.
During emergencies, Burke advised having a plan as her top piece of advice.
"The more we can prepare, the better," she said.

We were about to go to bed when Scott smelled fire, and he asked, "Does it smell like fire?" Then we waited for helicopters and sirens, but there was nothing in this case.
Burke said, "I was like, 'Yeah, it smells like fire.' Then I looked through a big window and saw the red sky at night. I was like, 'That's really close. Don't panic. Let's figure this out together.'"
The fitness guru and her family evacuated Malibu and drove to Santa Monica after waking up their children calmly.

Although it is challenging, frightening, and uncertain, it presents a great chance for a community to unite and work together.
You are greeted with love, support, and compassion. I was unaware of the extent of the destruction in our community. Many of our neighbors lost everything, including their homes and cherished belongings, which is heartbreaking.
It was "incredible" that her neighborhood came together to help put out a fire on her neighbor's front lawn, as Burke explained.
"The fight requires adrenaline and calm decision-making. Malibu holds a special place in my heart, as I reflected on my fourth experience with it. My home, which was burned in the Woolsey fires six years ago, is a part of my identity. The fire was a structural one, and I didn't talk about it because I felt fortunate to have survived."
One thing that really helped Burke was her packed fire box.
Brooke Burke reveals the essential items to grab in an emergency.
"I packed a fire box with important documents, including passports, birth certificates, original Social Security documents, which are difficult to obtain, baby books, and sentimental items. I always tell my kids to fill up their car with gas and have water when they're in a dangerous area."
Burkes stated that she refers to these crucial items as the "Ps" - securing your people, pets, passports, plastics (credit cards), paperwork, prescriptions, and ensuring all necessary power sources are in place.
"I've been through this before, which is why I'm not organized," Burke explained.
Burke expressed gratitude and said, "I'm in awe of the efforts of the firemen, policemen, ground air, neighbors, young people rallying together, connecting hoses to standing ground, protecting, and doing it responsibly."
As of Dec. 16, 54% of the Franklin Fire has been contained in Malibu. However, a large majority of Burke's neighborhood is still too "afraid" to go back home.

She explained that some of them have returned, while others have not. Some have experienced it, others are afraid to return, and some are sad to come back.
Reportedly, homes in the affected area include those of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Julia Roberts, and Lady Gaga. It is uncertain if their homes were damaged by the fire.
Dick Van Dyke, Jane Seymour, and Burke expressed their grief on social media about their community's devastation, with many people evacuating with their children and pets.
Burke posted a photo on Instagram of her standing next to a firefighter who appeared to be surveying the area.
