Luke Wilson's cowboy transformation in 'Horizon' gave him immense respect for his horse Charm.
In his movie 'Horizon: An American Saga,' Kevin Costner cast Luke Wilson, Sienna Miller, and Sam Worthington, among others.
Charm, Luke Wilson's horse, gained "respect" from him during his transformation into the cowboy character in "Horizon: An American Saga."
In an interview with Planet Chronicle Digital, Wilson, who played Matthew Van Weyden in Kevin Costner's passion project, shared his experience filming the first of four movies that hit theaters on Friday.
Wilson joked, "I miss you, Charm, if you're watching from Southeastern Utah. I'll see you in August."
The actor, who is 52 years old, spoke about his experience working with "incredible" horse wranglers, such as Scott Perez. He said, "When you work with these cowboys, they try to match you with a horse that you'll get along with and be able to manage. They're truly amazing."
For his role in "Horizon," the "Old School" star was paired with Charm, and Wilson has always loved animals.
Wilson stated that while he had some experience riding horses growing up, he had never spent as much time on horseback as he currently was.
During the filming process, Wilson developed a great deal of "admiration" for the horse.
Although I struggle to hit my mark from 200 yards, I have a lot of respect and love for Charm, who can hit his mark with ease.
Luke Wilson's portrayal of the 'Horizon' character granted him admiration for his equine companion.
Costner confided in Wilson about starring in his passion project, which he had been working on for decades, according to Deadline.
"He told Planet Chronicle Digital that the phone call was one of the most significant conversations in his life. Wilson described Costner as "somebody I respect so much, somebody I loved as a kid, somebody I'd admired as an adult.""
"Working alongside him in this business was a special experience, as it was a rare opportunity to get the chance to work in this field," he stated.
Sienna Miller, known for her role on "Horizon," was taken aback by the phone call she received regarding her potential participation in a Western film directed by Kevin Costner.
"I received a call from Kevin Costner, who wanted to discuss a project he was working on. I was ecstatic, as I had always been a fan of his work. He then sent me four scripts, which made me think it was for TV. However, it turned out to be for movies. We had a great conversation on Zoom, and I was thrilled to be working with such a talented actor. At the end of our conversation, Kevin asked me a question that left me speechless: 'Will you go West with me?' I was overwhelmed with excitement and agreed to the opportunity."
"She remembered recalling, 'Yes, yes, I will go. I will go to the moon and back a million times,'" she said.
The four films directed by Costner, who also starred in "Horizon," were written by him.
Nearly 30 years ago, the 69-year-old actor deemed the saga a passion project and backed it with his own money.
"He previously stated in GQ magazine that he had $20 million of his own money invested in the movie. However, he clarified that this was not accurate, as he currently has approximately $38 million in the film. This is the correct amount."
'HORIZON' Star Sam Worthington Discusses Kevin Costner's Message to America
Costner's storytelling in the four "Horizon" installments provides a broader perspective on the current state of the country, despite focusing on the West before and after the American Civil War.
""Horizon" star Sam Worthington stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that he believes Kevin's story highlights the hope that America was founded on, and if there was hope in its formation, then there may be hope for its continuation, whether it's in a Western or science fiction setting."
""If that's his message, I believe it's a fantastic message for the current America," he stated."
In 2025, Costner will release a new project on FOX Nation, following his previous hosting of "Yellowstone: One Fifty," which delves into the history of the national park.
