Lily Allen claims that she never had sex with anyone sober until she met her current husband and that addiction runs deep in her family.
A singer known for his hit song "Smile" marks 5 years of being sober.
Lily Allen is discussing her sobriety and its effects on her sex life.
The "Smile" singer admitted that she had never had sex with a sober partner until she married her current husband, "Stranger Things" star David Harbour.
"Allen, 39, stated to The Times of London that they don't often discuss the topic. He revealed that he had never had sex with anyone sober before meeting him, which was a significant difference."
Harbour, 49, has been sober for more than 20 years, respectfully. Allen’s comments come after she recently celebrated five years of sobriety.
"It's a completely different thing. It's inevitable, intentional, and tangible. Since he has a wealth of experience with it, it has been advantageous to do it with someone who has been around for a long time in that field," she chuckled.
In 2020, the two got married in a low-key ceremony with an Elvis Presley impersonator officiating.
Keith Allen, her father and an actor and comedian, was using cocaine, Allen recalled, as she recounted her earliest memories of being surrounded by drugs and alcohol.
"I believe that addiction is deeply ingrained in my family, so self-medicating was inevitable. For me, it wasn't a question of 'if,' but rather 'when,'" she stated.
When Allen arrived at her ex-husband's house, she recalled hitting rock bottom after he began a new relationship.
"I got drunk and lost myself. I went to his house and started yelling at him, woke the kids up, and caused a lot of distress. They remember that incident and know that I was under the influence at the time, so it's important for me to avoid similar situations in the future."
In 2011, Allen married Sam Cooper and they had two daughters, Marnie Rose and Ethel Mary. However, they went through a two-year divorce that ended in June 2018.
As Allen has been in the spotlight for most of her life, she said that her sobriety has now given her family a peace of mind.
"My kids feel safe, which is the main thing for me as I felt very unsafe in my childhood and my kids are safe."
