Kurt Russell's offer to adopt Kate Hudson and her brother Oliver was rejected by the siblings.
In 1983, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell started dating.
When Kate and Oliver Hudson were young, their mother, Goldie Hawn, started dating actor Kurt Russell.
This week on their "Sibling Revelry" podcast, Russell inquired if they would like him to formally adopt them. Despite their strong bond, they declined his offer.
On Tuesday's podcast episode, Tish and Brandi Cyrus were guests, and Oliver inquired about how Tish had Brandi with another partner, but Billy Ray Cyrus adopted her after they married.
Before explaining that his dad was only around for a little bit and then bailed, he asked if it was a "big moment" for her.
"The love was there with Kurt, no doubt about it. He is my dad." — Oliver Hudson
Although it took a long time to develop a good relationship with Bill, Oliver acknowledged that he has a good relationship with him now. However, he said that Russell came into his life when he was 5 or 6.
He raised me, and I am the man I am today because of him. He asked us if we wanted to be adopted, and we said no. We were not very aware of what it meant, but we said we didn't need it because the love was already there.
"When you lack your biological father, it's challenging to replace that love, no matter how much you try. Despite Kurt's love for you, there was always a sense of missing something, as if there was another side to him that you couldn't fully understand."
While Oliver anticipated feeling negative emotions about his biological father during a psychological retreat aimed at identifying childhood behaviors, he instead experienced "trauma" from Goldie Hawn.
He revealed that although he had the least trauma with his mother, who was his primary caregiver, he felt unprotected at times. She would be working or away, or have new boyfriends he didn't like. Despite being an amazing mother, she would often live her life independently.
"As a child without a father, I perceived my mother's presence as essential, but she was not always there. Despite my father's absence, my mother exceeded expectations and was more present."
His comments about trauma sparked a lot of attention, but he later explained that they were misconstrued, and he took time to commend Hawn's parenting.
"Without my mother, I wouldn't know who I am," he declared. "I can't comprehend the idea of not having her love, respect, and reverence in my life. It's beyond anything."
